Unable to load CSS fonts from WKURLSchemeHandler in a https website
I am trying to cache fonts natively in a hybrid app, so that CSS hosted in an https website loaded in WKWebView through loadRequest can reference them like this for a performance boost: @font-face { font-family: 'MyFont'; src: url('my-assets://Gordita-bold-subset.woff') format('woff'); font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; } The problem happens when I register a WKURLSchemeHandler for my-assets. The handler never gets called and the Safari Web Insepctor shows this: [blocked] The page at https://www.x.com/ requested insecure content from my-assets://Gordita-bold-subset.woff. This content was blocked and must be served over HTTPS. Interestingly enough, if we try to serve content with <img src="my-assets://test.png" this restriction does not apply. Are there any workarounds other than using the private API WKProcessPool._registerURLSchemeAsSecure?

ASWebAuthenticationSession cookies and Safari
Hi! I'm trying to implement ASWebAuthenticationSession to log in to my app via the web app backend. However, I'm a bit confused about the cookies that this has access to. When I set prefersEphemeralWebBrowserSession=false it does not seem to use the cookies from Safari. Or at least, I'm logged into my web app in Safari, but when I use ASWebAuthenticationSession I still have to log in again. Does it not share session cookies with Safari? I did notice that if I don't use an ephemeral session, once I log out and try to log back in my app does automatically log me in but that's actually unhelpful in my opinion because now I have no way to clear that session because it only lives in the ASWebAuthenticationSession context. If that's the case I may as well use the ephemeral session then because it seems to have only drawbacks.

Safari nativeMessaging with non-persistent background page
I'm working on a Safari web extension that uses the nativeMessaging facility to communication with native code. When I want to notify the javascript extension from the embedding application, I use SFSafariApplication::dispatchMessage. As per the documentation, this call ... ensures that Safari is launched and that your extension is running before delivering the message. Everything works fine when the background script is running. However, after the background script gets unloaded at some point in time (non persistent background page, default behavior for a manifest V3 extension), the background script is not reloaded by the message from the native app (background script still appears unloaded in the developer menu of Safari, double-checked using a counter stored in browser.storage.local incremented on message reception). In this case, the completion handler of the application gets no error (error == nil) as if the message was correctly delivered. I was able to reproduce this behavior with the sample app delivered for WWDC20 (after upgrading the manifest from v2 to v3 to make it non-persistent). Is it supposed to work ? What I'm doing wrong ?

Safari: Sticky element with bottom: 0 does not follow viewport when toolbar hides on scroll
Device: iPhone 15pro, ios26.0 (23A 341) IOS version: 26.0 (23A 341) When using position: sticky; bottom: 0, the div is expected to stick to the bottom of the viewport when the browser toolbar hides while scrolling. However, it stops at the height where the toolbar was, instead of moving down with the disappearing toolbar. In the image below, the red-bordered navigation shows the situation where it does not stick to the bottom. i

I want to specify the background color for the header notch and footer indicator area when opening the browser in Safari on iOS 26.
When I open the browser in Safari on iOS 26, I want to specify the background color for the header notch (where the time, battery, etc. are displayed) and the footer indicator area. Specifying the theme color in HTML as shown below did not change anything. <meta name="theme-color" content="#ff0000"> <meta name="theme-color" media="(prefers-color-scheme: light)" content="#ff0000"> <meta name="theme-color" media="(prefers-color-scheme: dark)" content="#ff0000"> The HTML below specifies the background color as green, but is it necessary to specify the background color directly in the body like this? Or is there some kind of metadata, like theme color? <!doctype html> <html lang="ja"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8" /> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width,initial-scale=1" /> <meta name="theme-color" content="#ff0000"> <meta name="theme-color" media="(prefers-color-scheme: light)" content="#ff0000"> <meta name="theme-color" media="(prefers-color-scheme: dark)" content="#ff0000"> <title>サンプル</title> </head> <body style="background:#00ff00"> <main> <p>テキスト</p> </main> <div id="overlay" role="dialog" aria-modal="true" data-test-id="health-warning-modal" style=" color:#000000; position:fixed; inset:0; z-index:30000; background:#2563eb; display:grid; /* 初期表示:表示中 */ align-items:center; justify-content:center; overflow-y:auto; " > <div style=" padding:60px 16px; display:flex; flex-direction:column; gap:20px; width:100%; box-sizing:border-box; " > <p style=" font-weight:700; text-align:center; margin-top:20px; font-size:28px; line-height:1.4; " > オーバーレイ </p> </div> </div> </body> </html>

Safari Is Unusable
I have had zero luck anywhere else and it’s at this point infuriating. February 23rd of this year I submitted a ticket in Feedback regarding how Safari for me has been broken. I can’t load any website at all, I have cleared cache, data, you name it. I have reset the phone after doing so and as I type this today on a brand new iPhone 17 Pro Max it still doesn’t work. Every single app that prompts a Safari window to sign in also doesn’t work and crashes just as Safari the app does. Sometimes I get a message that pops up that says “Webkit encountered an internal error” before it crashes. I can’t provide a screen recording or screen shots because Safari just crashes. I genuinely don’t know what to do or where to go for an answer and i’ve submitted seven updates to my open Feedback ticket since February 23rd 2025, spanning months from that original date and yet no change or help has came from it. I am clueless on how to even begin to go about fixing it and agitated because it’s been so long, so many other apps effected by this, even on a brand new device Safari still does not work for me. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated I used to have a 15 Pro Max but now on the 17 Pro Max and throughout the entire time i’ve been on the developer beta. Maybe that is the issue i’m unsure because now i’m just on iOS 26 so I don’t know if it’s just stuck like this forever. Again any help would be appreciated. I have not went physically to Apple yet to get this solved it‘s been a last resort, considering my options I might have to clear time to go. I’ve been using Chrome ever since this issue.

Text rendering problem using OpenType font and cursive lookups with mixed RIGHT_TO_LEFT flag
Hi, I am developing an OpenType font with the following cursive feature. feature curs { lookup cursivejoinrtl; # RIGHT_TO_LEFT flag set between Hah, Meem, Yeh and final Meem lookup rehwawcursive; # RIGHT_TO_LEFT flag clear between Waw and Hah } curs; Here is the rendering of the word وحميم in TextEdit. Using HarfBuzz I got the following result. The same rendering problem occurs when using Safari. It seems that is related to Core Text. I reported the issue to Feedback Assistant over a year ago but haven't had a response yet. So I'm posting the problem on this forum. Any support on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

iOS26 Safari rendering bug even on latest beta 3
I am testing stuff on a website, and it worked well on any mobile browser till iOS18. Now that I am testing iOS26, even with the latest BETA (3) everything works smoothly on any other mobile browser but Safari. Previously I had the bug, which now has been patched, for status-bar, which was flickering too, but popover and page issue seems still there. I have persistent popover and ajax navigation, and both are rendering with bugs and fouc while view/page changes. Example: If I have an element which must stay on its place and its width is 100vw: while page changes it blinks, shrinks, flicker and jumps on rendering, while it simply must stay as is.. Animations and page transitions work smoothly on Chrome mobile (latest iOS 26 beta 3) , while breaking on Safari. I did open a feedback FB18328720, but seems no one caring. Any idea guys? ** Video of the bug (which is huge!) : ** https://youtube.com/shorts/rY3oxUwDd7w?feature=share Cheers

Can't turn off inline auto predictions in WKWebView on Mac
I have a WKWebView that contains a js text editor, built on top of a content editable div. Currently, inline predictions on Mac break the text editors functionality significantly every time there's a prediction. There's not a way for me to fix this on the js side unless I can know when a prediction is shown. I've tried disabling inline predictions and writing tools with the web view config, but it doesn't work: let config = WKWebViewConfiguration() config.writingToolsBehavior = .none config.allowsInlinePredictions = false let webView = WKWebView(frame: .zero, configuration: config) I've also tried disabling all spellcheck and autocorrect features in the html but that doesn't work either: <div contenteditable="true" spellcheck="false" autocomplete="off" autocorrect="off" autocapitalize="off"></div> Is there anything I can do to turn it off? Or, is it possible to know when the WebView is predicting text?

Calling SFContentBlockerManager.reloadContentBlocker from related App extension intermittently fails
I have an app which has at least two extensions: A Content Blocker extension with a request handler that returns an appropriate NSExtensionItem as part of beginRequest. A different file URL is returned depending upon if the content blocking is on or off by a user setting A Safari Web Extension that includes a toolbar button and popover that enables users to enable or disable the ad blocking of the content blocker extension All three targets (App, Content Blocker appex and Web Extension appex) use an App Group default to read and set the on or off status of the content blocking. When the user changes the content blocking status, the app group default is updated and SFContentBlockerManager.reloadContentBlocker(...) is called. The Content Blocker extension reads the default and then returns the appropriate file URL. The issue is, I have noticed that whenever SFContentBlockerManager.reloadContentBlocker(...) is called from the app, Safari always applies the correct rules from the returned file URL. However sometimes when SFContentBlockerManager.reloadContentBlocker(...) is called from the Safari Web Extension using native messaging, Safari does NOT apply the correct rules from the returned file URL. Using logging I have confirmed that the Content Blocker extension always returns the appropriate file URL irrespective if called as a result of the app or the web extension. Despite this, Safari does not seem to always apply the returned file URL rules when it is called from the Safari Web Extension appex. In these cases, quitting Safari and relaunching it seems to make it apply the rules correctly (obviously this is applying it due to its launch state, not due to the Web extension appex asking it to do so at that point). All targets have access to the App Group location where the active content blocking file URL belongs and the inactive content blocking file URL is within the Safari content blocker target as a resource. I don't think this is a memory status issue as I cannot see the Content Blocker extension being killed when it returns complex rules --- the fact it always works when called via the app also seems to rule this possibility out. This brings up a number of questions: Is calling SFContentBlockerManager.reloadContentBlocker(...) from a different appex, of the same app target and app group supported? (it seems to work sometimes and did work in previous versions of the app). Is there an issue that the Content Blocker extension sometimes returns a file URL that perhaps the calling Web Extension appex may not have access to (even though Safari should via the Content Blocker extension)? Any other ideas of why this may not be working correctly? Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to happen on both iOS and macOS Safari using the same codebase.

SFSafariApplication doesn't transmit messages to docked website.
Hi! I'm working on a web extension for Safari and I need to send messages from the containing application to JavaScript. For this I use the method class func dispatchMessage( withName messageName: String, toExtensionWithIdentifier identifier: String, userInfo: [String : Any]? = nil ) async throws of the SFSafariApplication class. If the site is opened in Safari in normal mode, everything works as expected. However, if the site is "docked", the messages are not transmitted to this "Web App". Is it possible to somehow link the container application to the docked website so that messages from the application are received by this "Web App"? That you.

Websockets (WS/WSS) in iOS26
We're having trouble connecting to local area network websockets in Safari in the latest iOS26 Beta 3 (iPhone 14), both secure and unsecure. Code works < iOS26 & macOS, etc. -- Unsecure behaviour: need to call connectWebSocket() twice, establishes connection reliably. Calling connectWebSocket() once, will sometimes work, sometimes not. -- Secure behaviour: Error in debug console, even though the certificate has been accepted and the page is loaded as https. Error: WebSocket connection to 'wss://192.168.1.81/api/webSocket' failed: The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be “192.168.1.81”, which could put your confidential information at risk. -- let apiEndpoint = window.location.hostname; if (apiEndpoint == null || apiEndpoint == '') { apiEndpoint = "192.168.1.81"; } function connectWebSocket() { if (webSocket && webSocket.readyState == 1) { return; } if (webSocket) { webSocket.close(); } webSocket = new WebSocket( (window.location.protocol === 'https:' ? "wss://" : "ws://") + apiEndpoint + "/api/webSocket", ); webSocket.onerror = (error) => { console.log("WebSocket error", error); }; webSocket.onopen = () => { console.log("WebSocket connected"); webSocket.send("volume"); webSocket.send("isPlaying"); }; webSocket.onmessage = (event) => { const msg = event.data; if (!msg) return; if (msg.startsWith("volume")) { const volume = parseInt(msg.replace('volume:','')); const slider = document.getElementById("volumeSlider"); slider.value = volume; slider.style.background = `linear-gradient(to right, #007bff ${volume}%, white ${volume}%)`; } else if (msg.startsWith("isPlaying")) { const url = msg.replace('isPlaying:', ''); let matchedEntry = null; let coverToSelect = null; categories.forEach((category, catIdx) => { category.entries.forEach((entry, entryIdx) => { if (entry.url === url) { matchedEntry = entry; coverToSelect = document.querySelector(`.cover[category-idx="${catIdx}"][entry-idx="${entryIdx}"]`); } }); }); if (matchedEntry && coverToSelect) { selectCover(coverToSelect, true); showNowPlayingBar(matchedEntry); const top = coverToSelect.getBoundingClientRect().top + window.scrollY - 150; window.scrollTo({ top, behavior: 'smooth' }); } } }; webSocket.onclose = () => { console.log("WebSocket closed, retrying..."); setTimeout(connectWebSocket, 1000); }; } document.addEventListener("visibilitychange", () => { if (document.visibilityState === "visible") { connectWebSocket(); } }); connectWebSocket();

Is it possible to programmatically set macOS notification preferences for an app in Swift?
Hi, I’m working on a Safari extension for macOS, and I’d like the app to use specific system notification settings right after installation. I’m wondering if there’s a way in Swift to programmatically configure the default notification preferences (as seen in System Settings > Notifications > [my app]). Here are the desired settings: Only Desktop – without “Notification Center” or “Lock Screen” Alert Style: Temporary Badge App Icon: Enabled Play Sound for Notifications: Disabled Show Previews: When Unlocked Notification Grouping: Off (I don’t want them to accumulate in Notification Center) Here is the code I’m currently using to display a basic notification: private func handleNotificationRequest(_ message: [String: Any]) { guard let title = message["title"] as? String, let body = message["body"] as? String else { return } UNUserNotificationCenter.current().requestAuthorization(options: [.alert, .badge, .sound]) { granted, error in if granted { self.showNotification(title: title, body: body) } } } private func showNotification(title: String, body: String) { let content = UNMutableNotificationContent() content.title = title content.body = body content.sound = nil // No sound for subtle notification // Create notification that doesn't persist in notification center let trigger = UNTimeIntervalNotificationTrigger(timeInterval: 0.1, repeats: false) let request = UNNotificationRequest(identifier: "fast-url-copy-notification", content: content, trigger: trigger) UNUserNotificationCenter.current().add(request) { error in if let error = error { os_log(.error, "Failed to show notification: %@", error.localizedDescription) } } } OS: macOS 26.0 Thanks in advance, Mateusz

Can't turn off inline auto predictions in WKWebView on Mac

We're having trouble connecting to local area network websockets in Safari in the latest iOS26 Beta 3 (iPhone 14), both secure and unsecure. Code works < iOS26 & macOS, etc. -- Unsecure behaviour: need to call connectWebSocket() twice, establishes connection reliably. Calling connectWebSocket() once, will sometimes work, sometimes not. -- Secure behaviour: Error in debug console, even though the certificate has been accepted and the page is loaded as https. Error: WebSocket connection to 'wss://192.168.1.81/api/webSocket' failed: The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be “192.168.1.81”, which could put your confidential information at risk. -- let apiEndpoint = window.location.hostname; if (apiEndpoint == null || apiEndpoint == '') { apiEndpoint = "192.168.1.81"; } function connectWebSocket() { if (webSocket && webSocket.readyState == 1) { return; } if (webSocket) { webSocket.close(); } webSocket = new WebSocket( (window.location.protocol === 'https:' ? "wss://" : "ws://") + apiEndpoint + "/api/webSocket", ); webSocket.onerror = (error) => { console.log("WebSocket error", error); }; webSocket.onopen = () => { console.log("WebSocket connected"); webSocket.send("volume"); webSocket.send("isPlaying"); }; webSocket.onmessage = (event) => { const msg = event.data; if (!msg) return; if (msg.startsWith("volume")) { const volume = parseInt(msg.replace('volume:','')); const slider = document.getElementById("volumeSlider"); slider.value = volume; slider.style.background = `linear-gradient(to right, #007bff ${volume}%, white ${volume}%)`; } else if (msg.startsWith("isPlaying")) { const url = msg.replace('isPlaying:', ''); let matchedEntry = null; let coverToSelect = null; categories.forEach((category, catIdx) => { category.entries.forEach((entry, entryIdx) => { if (entry.url === url) { matchedEntry = entry; coverToSelect = document.querySelector(`.cover[category-idx="${catIdx}"][entry-idx="${entryIdx}"]`); } }); }); if (matchedEntry && coverToSelect) { selectCover(coverToSelect, true); showNowPlayingBar(matchedEntry); const top = coverToSelect.getBoundingClientRect().top + window.scrollY - 150; window.scrollTo({ top, behavior: 'smooth' }); } } }; webSocket.onclose = () => { console.log("WebSocket closed, retrying..."); setTimeout(connectWebSocket, 1000); }; } document.addEventListener("visibilitychange", () => { if (document.visibilityState === "visible") { connectWebSocket(); } }); connectWebSocket();

Questions for App Clips experience, please help
Hi all , I have 2 questions regaridng App Clips. 1 - can we directly invoke App Clips from a HTML Appclip experience url ? We want to directly take users to the App Clips flow without showing App Clips cards or banner. 2 - Does Apple have a plan to support other modern mobile browsers such as Chrome , Edge and Firefox ?
