Referer Header is not included for requests in WKWebView
"The Referer header allows a server to identify referring pages that people are visiting from or where requested resources are being used. " This header is never forwarded to server when the user is browsing the website in a WebView. This is properly maintained by other browsers but not in-app. How do I include it?

LocalOverride Request regular expression broke dev tools
Hello, I'm using Safari 18.2 on Sonoma 14.6.1. I was using the Developer Tools to do a Local Request Override in the Source tab for a CSS file that had a changing query string. I thought I had a good regular expression to catch all variants, but apparently it was too generic and possibly wrong, and made both Source and Network tabs no longer work in my Safari. The regular expression I entered for the Local Request Override was: //build/style.css(?.*)?$ Now my dev tools is broken to the extent that the Source and Network tabs no longer work. The slide-out panel on Source that shows Breakpoints, LocalOverrides, etc no longer shows. The toggle for it does, but does nothing now. UI in general looks a little wack on both tabs. So, since I can't turn off the Local Request Override, I've been trying to locate where Safari may have stored it to manually delete it. Not having a lot of luck on that front. It seems to me that Safari was unable to escape my regular expression correctly and it then causes additional issue. Just a guess though. Any advice or help in getting Safari Source & Network working again / manual removal of the LocalOverride would be greatly appreciated. I'm fluent in OSX and Linux, but grep was not much help surfacing anything that worked. Thanks in Advance, possibly a Safari bug as well.

WebView Bridge Communication Issue After Xcode 16 Update - iOS 18 SDK
Issue Description I'm developing a hybrid iOS app and encountering WebView bridge communication issues after updating to Xcode 16 with iOS 18 SDK. App Architecture AViewController: Initial view controller displayed at app launch Handles WebView setup and web-to-native bridge communication Pushes BViewController when receiving "B" bridge message from web BViewController: View controller stacked on top of AViewController Managed by navigation controller AViewController's WebView continues bridge communication even when BViewController is active Problem Behavior Xcode 15 (iOS 18): WebView bridge communication in AViewController works normally while BViewController is active Xcode 16 (iOS 18 SDK): Server communication breaks or hangs without response while BViewController is active Communication resumes only after popping back to AViewController from BViewController Questions Is the current architecture (configuring WebView in AViewController and maintaining bridge communication through AViewController's WebView while BViewController is presented) not a recommended pattern? Is Xcode 16's iOS 18 SDK the cause of this issue? If so, could you help me understand which specific changes are affecting this behavior? This is urgent as we need to deploy soon. I would greatly appreciate a prompt response.

Unexpected system confirmation dialog when opening a Universal Link
Subject: Unexpected system confirmation dialog when opening a Universal Link Description of the issue: We’re implementing a login flow using Native iOS apps, Universal Links, and OpenID Connect authentication. Our domain is correctly configured with the apple-app-site-association file, and Universal Links work as expected. However, under certain circumstances, the behavior differs on the same login page: The user connects to the OIDC provider in their mobile browser. Instead of automatically switching to the Native application, a popup asks the user to open the app. The behavior depends on how the login page is opened: When opened in a new browser tab, the Universal Link opens the app immediately without showing any system confirmation dialog. When the same tab is reused without a page refresh, iOS displays a system confirmation dialog asking the user to open the link in the app. This confirmation dialog doesn’t appear in the first scenario. This additional system dialog impacts the user experience, as we aim for a frictionless and seamless login flow with minimal confirmation steps. Question: Why does the app switch work automatically only the first time? Is this intentional iOS behavior? If so, what security requirement or system rule causes a confirmation dialog when reusing the same tab, but not when redirecting in a new tab or pressing a button on the reused tab? Is this expected design, or should we adjust our side to avoid this dialog? Environment details: Verified on two devices iOS versions: 18.7.2, 26.1 Thanks for your help.

The first four tab bars of Safari are hidden
There is no problem with the content display of each tab, but the tab bar is completely buggy. If you open 5 or more tabs and browse tabs after the 5, the first 4 tab bars will be completely blacked out, and you don't even know how many tabs you have. If you click on the place where the tab title probably exists, the tab is displayed as if the partial display of the tab bar has been restored. There is no problem with content display. But because it is unclear what tab is open, the browsing experience is at its lowest. If you switch to the tab after the 5th, the first 4 will return to the blackout state again. Of course, it is the latest software configuration at the moment. There is no shortage of memory at 24GB. I recently started developing a Safari extension with AppExtension, but is that due to it?

WKWebView audio/video codecs support
Actually this is a duplicate for https://aninterestingwebsite.com/forums/thread/106537 but in web-specific forums section. Is there any video/audio codec best practices, guides, recommendations for app/web developers for best performance (take advantage from HW acceleration), power consumption saving? What are officially supported media containers? What are video encoding profiles, video dimensions, frame rates? The only official source I have found is https://aninterestingwebsite.com/documentation/webkit/delivering-video-content-for-safari?language=objc. But h264 is pretty old. I experimentally found that the VP9 video format is also supported on iOS newer versions. But is this a requirement? Сan i be sure that the video will play on all devices? My goal is to provide web media content (which will be rendered in my application using WKWebView API) that will be supported by most devices (both iOS and MacOS), takes advantage of such features as hardware decode acceleration and be efficient. Any hints/info is highly appreciated. Best regards.

Authenticator app not reopening my PWA
I have a simple website, that I would like to make available as a progressive webapp, so I can somewhat customize what happens when people add the website to their homescreen (using the Share button) and maybe, in the future, use PWABuilder or something similar to publish it in some stores. My website needs authentication using OIDC, which after some redirects within the PWA opens an authenticator app on the phone. When the app returns from authenticating however, it opens a new browser tab instead of my PWA, so there is no context and the login fails. I am under the impression that this used to work, but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure what the problem is, I have no idea how, when the Authenticator app opens a URL (which is what I assume is happening under the hood), iOS or Safari or whatever would know which app to open (as the redirect URL is to the OIDC Idp, not the URL of my Web app). Any hints where I could look for a solution? Thanks!

Is it possible to programmatically set macOS notification preferences for an app in Swift?
Hi, I’m working on a Safari extension for macOS, and I’d like the app to use specific system notification settings right after installation. I’m wondering if there’s a way in Swift to programmatically configure the default notification preferences (as seen in System Settings > Notifications > [my app]). Here are the desired settings: Only Desktop – without “Notification Center” or “Lock Screen” Alert Style: Temporary Badge App Icon: Enabled Play Sound for Notifications: Disabled Show Previews: When Unlocked Notification Grouping: Off (I don’t want them to accumulate in Notification Center) Here is the code I’m currently using to display a basic notification: private func handleNotificationRequest(_ message: [String: Any]) { guard let title = message["title"] as? String, let body = message["body"] as? String else { return } UNUserNotificationCenter.current().requestAuthorization(options: [.alert, .badge, .sound]) { granted, error in if granted { self.showNotification(title: title, body: body) } } } private func showNotification(title: String, body: String) { let content = UNMutableNotificationContent() content.title = title content.body = body content.sound = nil // No sound for subtle notification // Create notification that doesn't persist in notification center let trigger = UNTimeIntervalNotificationTrigger(timeInterval: 0.1, repeats: false) let request = UNNotificationRequest(identifier: "fast-url-copy-notification", content: content, trigger: trigger) UNUserNotificationCenter.current().add(request) { error in if let error = error { os_log(.error, "Failed to show notification: %@", error.localizedDescription) } } } OS: macOS 26.0 Thanks in advance, Mateusz

iOS 18 Safari and WKWebview, "NotSupportedError" issue when playing videos
WKWebview of iOS 18 includes Safari browser. When playing videos, some videos show "NotSupportedError: The operation is not supported.", but it is normal on iOS15 devices. The video link is as follows. Even if it is downloaded and referenced locally in HTML, it cannot be played, so it is ruled out that it is a network problem. https://ydtj-adas.oss-cn-shanghai.aliyuncs.com/e6yun.com/exam/exam/a35447b496b94e5e9a6aab27d62c867e.mp4 cannot be played https://ydtj-adas.oss-cn-shanghai.aliyuncs.com/e6yun.com/exam/exam/82d970957a7d4e8d88c13cd101143005.mp4 can be played

Displaying spatial photos and videos on web pages in Safari
Cross posting from Spatial Computing, apologies if this is not the appropriate forum. The purpose is to create a simple web-based gallery of spatial photos and videos using static html files. I have successfully displayed spatial photos using the img tag and IMG.heic files. I can tap and hold the image to bring up the contextual menu and from there select View Spatial Photo. Is there any way to add a control to the image, like a link or overlay on the image itself, that a user can simply tap to show the image in 3D? And how to host a (small!) video file on a web page without going through a CDN/streaming service? Sample html would be much appreciated.

Details of SFExtensionProfileKey?
Hi, I’m working with the SFExtensionProfileKey in my Safari Web Extension. As I understand it, this key is to get the UUID of the profile currently in use. However, it seems to be missing (no key in userInfo) when the default profile is active. Also, I haven’t found any API to get a profile’s human-readable name or list all available profiles. Could someone clarify: If the value of SFExtensionProfileKey is absent, can I safely assume the default profile is in use? Is there a supported way to get a profile’s display name? Does Safari expose an API for getting all profiles? Thanks in advance for your insights!

Can't publish my app due to Mini apps
Hello Community, My application was rejected by Apple App Review, citing Guideline 4.7 and "non-embedded," which I believe is incorrect. All transactions are signed and sent directly through the app with explicit user permission. Additionally, there's an issue with min apps where users can access the functionality via a browser to interact with the service. This feature has been part of my old application and hasn't changed in the new update. It’s the same functionality as used by popular wallets like Metamask Uniswap Coinbase Which also employ web3 technology. Over the past two weeks, I've tried to communicate with Apple's support team but have been ignored or received only generic rejection emails. This has left me frustrated and concerned about the time and resources I’ve invested in developing and supporting this app. Could you please help me find a solution? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Cookie Missing After App Upgrade During OAuth Consent Flow on iOS (Safari ITP?)
Scenario Overview: In our app, we open an in-app browser to complete a third-party consent flow. The sequence is: App → Website A (set cookie and redirect) → Google → Website A (check cookie) → App After upgrading the app, the first consent attempt fails because the cookie cannot be written, causing the check cookie step to fail. However, if we use the native Safari browser, this issue does not occur. Observed Behavior: Scenario Result Upgrade app → Consent ❌ Fail Upgrade app → Consent fail → Consent again immediately ✅ Pass Upgrade app → Consent fail → Upgrade again after 1–2h → Consent ✅ Pass Upgrade app → Consent fail → Upgrade again after 1d → Consent ❌ Fail Install a new app → Consent ✅ Pass Upgrade app → Consent, cancel flow → Consent again ✅ Pass Install new app → Wait for upgrade → Upgrade app → Consent ✅ Pass Install new app → Wait 1–2h → Upgrade app → Consent ✅ Pass Investigation: From Safari documentation, this seems related to Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP), which restricts cross-site cookie behavior during first-party interactions. However, I haven’t found a clear mitigation strategy yet. Question: Has anyone encountered similar issues with Safari ITP after app upgrades? Are there recommended approaches to ensure cookies persist across this redirect flow?

iOS Safari Rendering Issue: Sticky Header Sometimes Fails to Update After DOM Changes
I’m encountering an issue on iOS when rendering a list using React. Each list item uses the array index as the React key and consists of two parts: a header section that uses position: sticky for dynamic sticking behavior, and a body section whose height is automatically adjusted based on its content. When the list data is updated, I sometimes observe that the sticky header content does not update visually in time, even though the underlying data and DOM have changed. // demo.jsx import React, { useState } from 'react'; import { Button } from '@iftide/mobile'; import './style2.less'; // import data1 from './data1.json'; // import data2 from './data2.json'; const prefixCls = 'im-detaillist'; const data1 = [ { sectionTitle: '2025年05月' }, { sectionTitle: '2025年04月' }, { sectionTitle: '2025年03月' } ]; const data2 = [ { sectionTitle: '2023年08月' }, { sectionTitle: '2023年07月' }, { sectionTitle: '2023年06月' }, { sectionTitle: '2023年05月' } ]; export default function App() { const [list, setList] = useState(data1); const [toggle, setToggle] = useState(true); return ( <div> <Button title="更新2" onClick={() => { setToggle(!toggle); setList(data2); }} /> <div className={`${prefixCls}-container2`} style={{ height: `700px` }}> {list.map((section: any, sectionIdx: number) => { return ( <div className={`${prefixCls}`} key={String(sectionIdx)} // id={section.sectionTitle} > <div className={`${prefixCls}-section-title`} role="text"> {section.sectionTitle} </div> <div style={{ background: 'green', height: `${Math.ceil(400 * Math.random()) + 50}px` }} > 省略 </div> </div> ); })} </div> </div> ); } .@{prefixCls}-section-title { position: sticky; position: -webkit-sticky; will-change: transform; top: 0; z-index: 1; padding-left: 11px; width: 100%; height: 30px; font-size: var(--font-size-s); font-weight: 400; line-height: 30px; color: #000000; background-color: #F4F5F7; letter-spacing: 0; }

JavaScript to externally automate Webpage operation
I am a newby to JavaScript, suggested to me to use to automate the task of opening of a Web page, selecting three internal buttons in sequence to download the underlying chart data. I have created the App via Automator on macOS, to run the Script, successfully open the Web Page, but cannot find a way to select and click() on the buttons. Can someone please help me. Robert. This is the code suggested by Grok 3 Beta, but I see this error: Error: First parameter passed to Document Constructor must be an object. function run(input, parameters) { var Safari = Application('Safari'); Safari.activate(); // Open the AEMO data dashboard (Grok 3 Beta recomendation opens the web page correctly) Safari.Document().make(); Safari.windows[0].currentTab.url = 'https://www.aemo.com.au/energy-systems/electricity/national-electricity-market-nem/data-nem/data-dashboard-nem'; delay(10); // Wait for page to load // Click the Fuel Mix tab (target the active in the tabs) Safari.Document(0).doJavaScript("document.querySelector('.tabs .active').click()"); delay(5); // Wait for tab content to load // Select 48 hrs from the dropdown Safari.Document(0).doJavaScript("document.querySelector('#interval').value = '48H'; document.querySelector('#interval').dispatchEvent(new Event('change'))"); delay(5); // Wait for selection to take effect // Click the download button Safari.Document(0).doJavaScript("document.querySelector('.visualisation-icon-button').click()"); return input; }

I have a question about Safari running in the background on iOS and iPadOS.
I coded two demo websites as follows (both written in NextJS): Website 1: I coded an interval counter that increments every 1 second. Website 2: I used the MediaRecorder API (described in the WebKit documentation: https://webkit.org/blog/11353/mediarecorder-api/). In the ondataavailable function, I periodically send a blob (once every 1 second) to my server. In the backend, I coded a POST API to upload this blob. I noticed that with website 1, the interval doesn't work when I run Safari in the background, even on iOS and iPadOS. However, website 2 works, meaning it still calls my API normally (I tried running Safari in the background for about 1-2 hours and it worked). So, does this mean Apple allows native APIs like MediaRecorder and its callbacks to run in the background?

I’m encountering an issue on iOS when rendering a list using React. Each list item uses the array index as the React key and consists of two parts: a header section that uses position: sticky for dynamic sticking behavior, and a body section whose height is automatically adjusted based on its content. When the list data is updated, I sometimes observe that the sticky header content does not update visually in time, even though the underlying data and DOM have changed. // demo.jsx import React, { useState } from 'react'; import { Button } from '@iftide/mobile'; import './style2.less'; // import data1 from './data1.json'; // import data2 from './data2.json'; const prefixCls = 'im-detaillist'; const data1 = [ { sectionTitle: '2025年05月' }, { sectionTitle: '2025年04月' }, { sectionTitle: '2025年03月' } ]; const data2 = [ { sectionTitle: '2023年08月' }, { sectionTitle: '2023年07月' }, { sectionTitle: '2023年06月' }, { sectionTitle: '2023年05月' } ]; export default function App() { const [list, setList] = useState(data1); const [toggle, setToggle] = useState(true); return ( <div> <Button title="更新2" onClick={() => { setToggle(!toggle); setList(data2); }} /> <div className={`${prefixCls}-container2`} style={{ height: `700px` }}> {list.map((section: any, sectionIdx: number) => { return ( <div className={`${prefixCls}`} key={String(sectionIdx)} // id={section.sectionTitle} > <div className={`${prefixCls}-section-title`} role="text"> {section.sectionTitle} </div> <div style={{ background: 'green', height: `${Math.ceil(400 * Math.random()) + 50}px` }} > 省略 </div> </div> ); })} </div> </div> ); } .@{prefixCls}-section-title { position: sticky; position: -webkit-sticky; will-change: transform; top: 0; z-index: 1; padding-left: 11px; width: 100%; height: 30px; font-size: var(--font-size-s); font-weight: 400; line-height: 30px; color: #000000; background-color: #F4F5F7; letter-spacing: 0; }

JavaScript to externally automate Webpage operation
I am a newby to JavaScript, suggested to me to use to automate the task of opening of a Web page, selecting three internal buttons in sequence to download the underlying chart data. I have created the App via Automator on macOS, to run the Script, successfully open the Web Page, but cannot find a way to select and click() on the buttons. Can someone please help me. Robert. This is the code suggested by Grok 3 Beta, but I see this error: Error: First parameter passed to Document Constructor must be an object. function run(input, parameters) { var Safari = Application('Safari'); Safari.activate(); // Open the AEMO data dashboard (Grok 3 Beta recomendation opens the web page correctly) Safari.Document().make(); Safari.windows[0].currentTab.url = 'https://www.aemo.com.au/energy-systems/electricity/national-electricity-market-nem/data-nem/data-dashboard-nem'; delay(10); // Wait for page to load // Click the Fuel Mix tab (target the active in the tabs) Safari.Document(0).doJavaScript("document.querySelector('.tabs .active').click()"); delay(5); // Wait for tab content to load // Select 48 hrs from the dropdown Safari.Document(0).doJavaScript("document.querySelector('#interval').value = '48H'; document.querySelector('#interval').dispatchEvent(new Event('change'))"); delay(5); // Wait for selection to take effect // Click the download button Safari.Document(0).doJavaScript("document.querySelector('.visualisation-icon-button').click()"); return input; }
