App Randomly Crashes During Continuous Sound Playback Using AVAudioPlayer
Environment→ ・Device: iPad 10th generation ・OS:**iOS18.3.2 We're using AVAudioPlayer to play a sound when a button is tapped. In our use case, this button can be tapped very frequently — roughly every 0.1 to 0.2 seconds. Interestingly, adding a delay of 0.2 seconds between button taps seems to prevent the crash entirely. Delays shorter than 0.2 seconds (e.g.,0.15s,0.18s) still result in occasional crashes. My questions are: **Is this expected behavior from AVAudioPlayer or AVAudioSession? Could this be a known issue or a limitation in AVFoundation? Is there any documentation or guidance on handling frequent sound playback safely?** Any insights or recommendations on how to handle rapid, repeated audio playback more reliably would be appreciated.

Instagram video embed in WKWebView freezes on start on iOS18.5
Hi everyone! Here's what I observed so far: On device it's reproducible on iOS/iPadOS18.5, but works on iPadOS17.7. On iPhone16 iOS 18.5 simulator that I was extensively using for development it was reproducible until I reset content and settings. On iPhone 16 iOS18.4 simulator, which was also used a lot during development it still works always, so I tend to think it's 18.5 issue. Setting config.websiteDataStore = .nonPersistent() doesn't help. Cleaning WKWebsiteDataStore doesn't help. It works fine using direct URL from the embedded code (see the code below). Can someone provide some insight on how this could be fixed? MusicKit - Not showing as a capability in Xcode
A bit of a novice to app development here but I have a paid developer account, I have registered the identifier for MusicKit on the developer website (using the bundle identifier I've selected in Xcode) but the option to add MusicKit as a capability is not available in Xcode? I've manually updated the certificates, closed the app and reopened it, started a new project and tried with a different demo project? Apologies if I am missing something obvious but could someone help me get this capability added?

AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate and CoreMediaErrorDomain -12881 When Playing HLS Audio
I am developing an app that plays HLS audio. When using AVPlayerItem with AVURLAsset, can AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate correctly handle HLS segments? My goal is to use AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate to add authentication HTTP headers when accessing HLS .m3u8 and .ts files. I can successfully download the files, but playback fails with errors. Specifically, I am observing the following cases: A. AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate is canceled, and CoreMediaErrorDomain -12881 occurs In NSURLConnectionDataDelegate’s didReceiveResponse method, set contentInformationRequest In didReceiveData, call dataRequest respondWithData resourceLoader didCancelLoadingRequest is called CoreMediaErrorDomain -12881 occurs B. CoreMediaErrorDomain -12881 occurs In NSURLConnectionDataDelegate’s didReceiveResponse method, set contentInformationRequest In connection didReceiveData, buffer all received data until the end In connectionDidFinishLoading, pass the buffered data to respondWithData Call loadingRequest finishLoading CoreMediaErrorDomain -12881 occurs In both cases, dataRequest.requestsAllDataToEndOfResource is YES. For this use case, I am not using AVURLAssetHTTPHeaderFieldsKey because I need to apply the most up-to-date authentication data at the moment each file is accessed. MIDI output form Standalone MIDI Processor Demo App to DAW
I am trying to get MIDI output from the AU Host demo app using the recent MIDI processor example. The processor works correctly in Logic Pro, but I cannot send MIDI from the AUv3 extension in standalone mode using the default host app to another program (e.g., Ableton). The MIDI manager, which is part of the standalone host app, works fine, and I can send MIDI using it directly—Ableton receives it without issues. I have already set the midiOutputNames in the extension, and the midiOutBlock is mapped. However, the MIDI data from the AUv3 extension does not reach Ableton in standalone mode. I suspect the issue is that midiOutBlock might never be called in the plugin, or perhaps an input to the plugin is missing, which prevents it from sending MIDI. I am currently using the default routing. I have modified the MIDI manager such that it works well as described above. Accessory not supported by this device
Hi, I've had a new deck installed in my car for about 1.5 weeks. I'm having compatibility issues with my 15PM. It happens both wired and wirelessly, I get the error "Accessory not supported by this device". It used to happen all the time, now it's 50/50. Sometimes it works. I've removed and added Bluetooth multiple times on phone and deck, I bought a belkin usb-c to usb-a cable today and it seems to fix it but the problem comes back. I've changed the setting "FaceID and passcode-allow access when locked-accessories." The car stereo guy reckons it's definitely an issue with the phone not the deck, I'm inclined to believe him since the error states "by this device". Any advice appreciated.

New FairPlay Keys
Hello, My company has an in-store app with FPS SDK 4.x (1024) keys. We've handed those keys over to a trusted third-party and we do not have them. We've been in-store for several years. The person that created the keys in our organization mistakenly stored them encrypted to our third-party's PGP keys, so we cannot decrypt them, and the third party also has no mechanism to provide us with the keys even though it is in their runtime environment. They only have secure mechanisms for us to upload keys onto their servers. We are trying to migrate to a different third-party DRM provider, and would like to obtain new keys. Unfortunately, the developer portal won't let me create new keys, saying that we have exceeded the number of keys allowed, which I assume is one. Additionally, the new DRM provider can only support SDK 4.x keys, and it appears that we can only request SDK 5.x keys on the Apple Developer portal, as the SDK 4.0 option is grayed out. Regardless, it seems that we are not able to request any keys. We've submitted a request to the support e-mail address and received an automated e-mail that the response should take a few days, but may take longer on occasion. It's now been a month. The e-mail says that the reply address is not monitored. Is there any way we can accelerate this? Thank you, Carlos

Number of songs in the Apple Music Feed
Hello, I'm evaluating the Apple Music Feed dataset and I noticed that the total number of songs available in the feed is too small. As of today, the number of objects returned in each feed is: 51,198,712 albums 23,093,698 artists 173,235,315 songs This gives an average of 3.38 songs per album which is quite low. Also, iterating on the data I see that there are albums referencing songs that don't exist in the songs feed. I would like to know: Is the feed data incomplete? If so, in what situations an object may be missing from the feed? Thank you in advance!

Potential Documentation Error in kAudioAggregateDevicePropertyTapList Sample Code
Hi, I believe I've found a potential error in the sample code on the documentation page for creating and using a process tap with an aggregate device. The issue is in the section explaining how to add a tap to the aggregate device. I have already filed a Feedback Assistant ticket on this (ID: FB17411663) but haven't heard back for months. Capturing system audio with Core Audio taps The sample code for modifying the kAudioAggregateDevicePropertyTapList incorrectly uses the tapID as the target AudioObjectID when calling AudioObjectSetPropertyData. // (Code to get the list and potentially modify listAsArray) if var listAsArray = list as? I'm having a crash on an app that plays videos when the users activates close captions. I was able to replicate the issue on an empty project. Play Audio and Recognize Speech in Car
Hello, I'm trying to determine the best/recommended AVAudioSession configuration (i.e category, mode, and options) for the following use-case. Essentially, I'd like to switch between periods of playing an audio file and then recognizing speech. The audio file is typically speech and I don't intend for playback and speech recognition to occur simultaneously. I'd like for the user to sill be able to interact with Siri and I'd like for it to work with CarPlay where navigation prompts can occur. I would assume the category to use is 'playAndRecord', but I'm not sure if it's better to just set that once for the entire lifecycle, or set to 'playback' for audio file playback and then switch to 'playAndRecord' for speech recognition . I'm also not sure on the best 'mode' and 'options' to set. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Album parquet files don't include song names
The documentation of the Apple Music Feed API states that the Album object would include songs — a list of songs in the album. As per the doc, this would be an array of object Album.RelatedSong, which would include both an id and nameDefault. Unfortunately, the album parquet files only include the song id and not the name of the song itself. Please advise - is the documentation incorrect or are the recently posted parquet files in error?

PHAssetResourceUploadJobChangeRequest doesn't upload iCloud-optimized photos — is this expected?
I'm implementing PHBackgroundResourceUploadExtension to back up photos and videos to our cloud storage service. During testing, I observed that iCloud-optimized photos (where the full-resolution original is stored in iCloud, not on device) do not upload. The upload job appears to silently skip these assets. Questions: Is this behavior intentional/documented? I couldn't find explicit mention of this limitation. If the device only has the optimized/thumbnail version locally, does the system: - Automatically download the full-resolution asset from iCloud before uploading? - Skip the asset entirely? - Return an error via PHAssetResourceUploadJobChangeRequest? For a complete backup solution, should we: - Pre-fetch full-resolution assets using PHAssetResourceManager.requestData(for:options:) before creating upload jobs? - Use a hybrid approach (this extension for local assets + separate logic for iCloud-only assets)? Instagram video embed in WKWebView freezes on start on iOS18.5
Hi everyone! Here's what I observed so far: On device it's reproducible on iOS/iPadOS18.5, but works on iPadOS17.7. On iPhone16 iOS 18.5 simulator that I was extensively using for development it was reproducible until I reset content and settings. On iPhone 16 iOS18.4 simulator, which was also used a lot during development it still works always, so I tend to think it's 18.5 issue. Setting config.websiteDataStore = .nonPersistent() doesn't help. Cleaning WKWebsiteDataStore doesn't help. It works fine using direct URL from the embedded code (see the code below). Can someone provide some insight on how this could be fixed? MusicKit - Not showing as a capability in Xcode
A bit of a novice to app development here but I have a paid developer account, I have registered the identifier for MusicKit on the developer website (using the bundle identifier I've selected in Xcode) but the option to add MusicKit as a capability is not available in Xcode? I've manually updated the certificates, closed the app and reopened it, started a new project and tried with a different demo project? Apologies if I am missing something obvious but could someone help me get this capability added?

I am developing an app that plays HLS audio. When using AVPlayerItem with AVURLAsset, can AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate correctly handle HLS segments? My goal is to use AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate to add authentication HTTP headers when accessing HLS .m3u8 and .ts files. I can successfully download the files, but playback fails with errors. Specifically, I am observing the following cases: A. AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate is canceled, and CoreMediaErrorDomain -12881 occurs In NSURLConnectionDataDelegate’s didReceiveResponse method, set contentInformationRequest In didReceiveData, call dataRequest respondWithData resourceLoader didCancelLoadingRequest is called CoreMediaErrorDomain -12881 occurs B. MIDI output form Standalone MIDI Processor Demo App to DAW
I am trying to get MIDI output from the AU Host demo app using the recent MIDI processor example. The processor works correctly in Logic Pro, but I cannot send MIDI from the AUv3 extension in standalone mode using the default host app to another program (e.g., Ableton). The MIDI manager, which is part of the standalone host app, works fine, and I can send MIDI using it directly—Ableton receives it without issues. I have already set the midiOutputNames in the extension, and the midiOutBlock is mapped. However, the MIDI data from the AUv3 extension does not reach Ableton in standalone mode. I suspect the issue is that midiOutBlock might never be called in the plugin, or perhaps an input to the plugin is missing, which prevents it from sending MIDI. I am currently using the default routing. I have modified the MIDI manager such that it works well as described above. Accessory not supported by this device
Hi, I've had a new deck installed in my car for about 1.5 weeks. I'm having compatibility issues with my 15PM. It happens both wired and wirelessly, I get the error "Accessory not supported by this device". It used to happen all the time, now it's 50/50. Sometimes it works. I've removed and added Bluetooth multiple times on phone and deck, I bought a belkin usb-c to usb-a cable today and it seems to fix it but the problem comes back. I've changed the setting "FaceID and passcode-allow access when locked-accessories." The car stereo guy reckons it's definitely an issue with the phone not the deck, I'm inclined to believe him since the error states "by this device". Any advice appreciated.

New FairPlay Keys
Hello, My company has an in-store app with FPS SDK 4.x (1024) keys. We've handed those keys over to a trusted third-party and we do not have them. We've been in-store for several years. The person that created the keys in our organization mistakenly stored them encrypted to our third-party's PGP keys, so we cannot decrypt them, and the third party also has no mechanism to provide us with the keys even though it is in their runtime environment. They only have secure mechanisms for us to upload keys onto their servers. We are trying to migrate to a different third-party DRM provider, and would like to obtain new keys. Unfortunately, the developer portal won't let me create new keys, saying that we have exceeded the number of keys allowed, which I assume is one. Additionally, the new DRM provider can only support SDK 4.x keys, and it appears that we can only request SDK 5.x keys on the Apple Developer portal, as the SDK 4.0 option is grayed out. Regardless, it seems that we are not able to request any keys. We've submitted a request to the support e-mail address and received an automated e-mail that the response should take a few days, but may take longer on occasion. It's now been a month. The e-mail says that the reply address is not monitored. Is there any way we can accelerate this? Thank you, Carlos

Number of songs in the Apple Music Feed
Hello, I'm evaluating the Apple Music Feed dataset and I noticed that the total number of songs available in the feed is too small. As of today, the number of objects returned in each feed is: 51,198,712 albums 23,093,698 artists 173,235,315 songs This gives an average of 3.38 songs per album which is quite low. Also, iterating on the data I see that there are albums referencing songs that don't exist in the songs feed. I would like to know: Is the feed data incomplete? If so, in what situations an object may be missing from the feed? Thank you in advance!

Regarding the issue of obtaining input channels for aggregated devices
I found that the aggregated device correctly obtains input channels in the standard microphone mode. However, in voice isolation mode, it only retrieves channels from the first sub-device in the aggregated device's list. If I want to properly obtain channel information in voice isolation mode, how should I do it?

Potential Documentation Error in kAudioAggregateDevicePropertyTapList Sample Code
Hi, I believe I've found a potential error in the sample code on the documentation page for creating and using a process tap with an aggregate device. The issue is in the section explaining how to add a tap to the aggregate device. I have already filed a Feedback Assistant ticket on this (ID: FB17411663) but haven't heard back for months. Capturing system audio with Core Audio taps The sample code for modifying the kAudioAggregateDevicePropertyTapList incorrectly uses the tapID as the target AudioObjectID when calling AudioObjectSetPropertyData. // (Code to get the list and potentially modify listAsArray) if var listAsArray = list as? Play Audio and Recognize Speech in Car
Hello, I'm trying to determine the best/recommended AVAudioSession configuration (i.e category, mode, and options) for the following use-case. Essentially, I'd like to switch between periods of playing an audio file and then recognizing speech. The audio file is typically speech and I don't intend for playback and speech recognition to occur simultaneously. I'd like for the user to sill be able to interact with Siri and I'd like for it to work with CarPlay where navigation prompts can occur. I would assume the category to use is 'playAndRecord', but I'm not sure if it's better to just set that once for the entire lifecycle, or set to 'playback' for audio file playback and then switch to 'playAndRecord' for speech recognition . I'm also not sure on the best 'mode' and 'options' to set. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Album parquet files don't include song names
The documentation of the Apple Music Feed API states that the Album object would include songs — a list of songs in the album. As per the doc, this would be an array of object Album.RelatedSong, which would include both an id and nameDefault. Unfortunately, the album parquet files only include the song id and not the name of the song itself. Please advise - is the documentation incorrect or are the recently posted parquet files in error?

I have an app that displays artwork via MPMediaItem.artwork, requesting an image with a specific size. How do I get a media item's MPMediaItemAnimatedArtwork, and how to get the preview image and video to display to the user?

PHAssetResourceUploadJobChangeRequest doesn't upload iCloud-optimized photos — is this expected?
I'm implementing PHBackgroundResourceUploadExtension to back up photos and videos to our cloud storage service. During testing, I observed that iCloud-optimized photos (where the full-resolution original is stored in iCloud, not on device) do not upload. The upload job appears to silently skip these assets. Questions: Is this behavior intentional/documented? I couldn't find explicit mention of this limitation. If the device only has the optimized/thumbnail version locally, does the system: - Automatically download the full-resolution asset from iCloud before uploading? - Skip the asset entirely? - Return an error via PHAssetResourceUploadJobChangeRequest? For a complete backup solution, should we: - Pre-fetch full-resolution assets using PHAssetResourceManager.requestData(for:options:) before creating upload jobs? - Use a hybrid approach (this extension for local assets + separate logic for iCloud-only assets)?
