APNS Connection Timed out
This error has been continuously occurring for about 9 hours. We have not replaced the certificate, modified the server code, or changed the firewall policy. Some requests succeed, but many are timing out, with several timeouts occurring every minute. We are unable to find the cause. Please help. Issue in background notification iOS 18
Issue: I am making an application that stores data locally from notifications fired from the server. Everything works fine in the foreground but the background is having problems with not being triggered when notifications are fired. So we tried firing 2 notifications at the same time, including default and silent types. But the problem continues to arise on ios 18, when firing multiple times like that, the trigger is not handling all notifications, leading to data loss. I tried on ios 15 and it worked fine. Environment: Device or Simulator: Iphone 11 pro max (iOS 18.3.2 Steps to Reproduce: Open app, allow received notification. Move app to background mode or terminate app. Sent 2 notifications: a. Default notification payload: { "aps": { "content-available": 1 }, ”notification”: {…}, “alert”: {..}, “data": "some_value" } b. Silent notification payload: { "aps": { "content-available": 1 }, ”data": "some_value" } What I've Tried: Trigger notification in function: application(_:didReceiveRemoteNotification:fetchCompletionHandler:) Handle write data to local storage in above function, put it in background thread also. Alternate App Icon Change Does Not Reflect in Notification Center on iOS 18.1+
Version: iOS 18.1 and later (works as expected on iOS 18.0 and earlier) Area: SpringBoard / Notification Center / App Icon Rendering Description: When changing the app's alternate icon using UIApplication.setAlternateIconName(_:completionHandler:), the icon is updated correctly on the Home Screen and App Switcher. However, in Notification Center, the old app icon is still shown for notifications, even after the change has completed. This issue only occurs on iOS 18.1 and later. In iOS 18.0 and earlier, Notification Center correctly reflects the updated icon. - Steps to reproduce: Create an iOS app with alternate app icons configured in the Info.plist. Use UIApplication.shared.setAlternateIconName("IconName") to change the icon at runtime. Send a notification. Pull down Notification Center and observe the icon shown beside the notification. - Expected Behavior: Notification Center should reflect the updated (alternate) app icon immediately after the change. - Actual Behavior: Notification Center continues to display the old (primary) app icon. The new icon appears correctly on the Home Screen and App Switcher. Restarting the device does cause Notification Center to update and reflect the correct icon, which suggests a cache or refresh issue in SpringBoard or Notification Center. - Notes: Issue introduced in iOS 18.1; not present in 18.0. Reproduces on both physical devices and simulators. Occurs with both scheduled local notifications and remote notifications. Restarting the device updates the Notification Center icon, but this is not a viable user-facing workaround.

Questions for AlarmKit
We are so interested in AlarmKit which is presented at WWDC25. While we planning our app using AlarmKit, We had a few questions come to mind and were hoping you could provide some clarity. Please excuse the rather long list of questions, as we don't currently have a device available to test these features ourselves. System Actions Related Is there a limit to the number of alarms that can be scheduled using AlarmKit? Are alarms scheduled with AlarmKit persistent across device reboots? When an alarm is dismissed (either by swiping or pressing the power button), can our app detect this action and execute code in response? Can we control the behavior of the physical Lock Screen buttons when an AlarmKit alarm is active, for instance, to trigger a snooze action? Does AlarmKit function correctly during Do Not Disturb or Low Power Mode? What is the expected behavior when an alarm from our app (using AlarmKit) overlaps with an alarm from another app that also uses AlarmKit? Which one is going to get its priority? Need Clarification on Using Location Push Service Extension for Firefighter Check-In/Check-Out
I’m building a firefighter app that needs to automatically check in a firefighter when they arrive at the station and check them out when they leave — even if the app is killed. We need reliable enter/exit detection, low latency, and only one fixed location per user. We’re evaluating Region Monitoring, which works in the killed state but may introduce delays and inconsistent accuracy. To ensure mission-critical reliability, we are considering the Location Push Service Extension, since it can fetch precise location on demand and wake the extension even when the app is terminated. Before requesting the restricted entitlement, we need clarification on Apple’s expectations: Is Region Monitoring recommended for this fixed-location use case? Would Apple consider approving the Location Push Service Extension for a public-safety workflow? What prerequisites do we need before submitting the entitlement request (Always permission, prototype, privacy disclosures, etc.)? What details should be included in the justification form? Our goal is to follow the most reliable and Apple-approved approach for firefighter check-in/out. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The app works correctly when running in foreground or background, but fails when the app is completely terminated (killed by user or system). After accepting the call from the system call UI, the app launches but gets stuck on the launch screen and cannot navigate to our custom intercom interface. Unable to connect to APNS sandbox endpoint
I am unable to connect to APNs sandbox push endpoint from our backend servers. It works fine when hitting the request from my local machine but it fails from the infra servers. SwiftUI: UNUserNotificationCenter delegate not called on cold start when opening notification
I'm sending local push notifications and want to show specific content based on the id of any notification the user opens. I'm looking for a way to fix this without switching my app lifecycle to UIKit. NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription only works for certain locales
I'm trying to provide custom localized descriptions for the iOS notification permission popup in my app, which supports multiple locales. To achieve this, I'm using InfoPlist.strings files per locale with the following keys: NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription NSUserTrackingUsageDescription The issue I'm facing is that NSUserTrackingUsageDescription is working correctly across all tested locales, but NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription only works for some locales. Locales tested: Working: ja, tr, fr-CA Not working: fr-BE, nl-BE In each case, the correct localized NSUserTrackingUsageDescription appears, but the NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription falls back to the default or does not appear as expected in fr-BE and nl-BE. I'm using Xcode 16 and testing on both iOS 18 simulator and physical devices, and the issue is consistent across both. Any insights on whether this is a known issue in iOS or if there are additional steps needed for NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription to localize properly would be greatly appreciated.

React Native iOS - Notification Service Extension Not Working
I've added a Notification Service Extension as a target to my React Native iOS app following Apple's official documentation. After completing all the setup steps as outlined in the documentation, the notification titles remain unchanged - notifications are arriving without any modifications, suggesting the extension isn't functioning properly.Testing Details: Sending notifications via Apple Push Notification Console Tested on iPhone 16 Pro Max (physical device) Tested on iPhone 15 Pro simulator Both show the same issue - no title modifications The extension appears to not be executing at all. CarPlay: no banner or sound for APNs while connected, works on phone (iOS 18.0, UNNotificationCategoryOptions.allowInCarPlay)
Hi everyone! I’m integrating push notifications for a taxi-driver app and ran into a blocking CarPlay issue. When the iPhone is connected to CarPlay (wired or wireless), the push arrives on the phone without any sound and nothing is shown or announced on the CarPlay screen. If I unplug CarPlay, the same push plays the default sound and shows a normal banner on the lock screen, so the payload itself looks valid. No notification sound when CarPlay is connected
We're building a taxi driver app. Our goal is simple: Play a notification sound when a new ride request arrives — even if the iPhone is connected to CarPlay. We use Firebase push with "sound": "default" and "interruption-level": "time-sensitive". The app requests .carPlay and uses a category with .allowInCarPlay. Everything works when CarPlay is disconnected — we get sound and banner. But when connected to CarPlay: the push is delivered silently, no sound is played (even on the phone), Siri Announce is enabled, but nothing is spoken. Questions: Is notification sound blocked when CarPlay is active, unless the app has CarPlay entitlement? Is Siri Announce the only way to notify the driver audibly in this case? Would getting a CarPlay entitlement (e.g. CarPlay.communication) fix this without building a full CarPlay UI? Thanks — all we need is a reliable sound alert when a new ride comes in.

Is near-real-time, lossless event relay from iPhone background push to watchOS via WatchConnectivity a supported architecture?
We have an iPhone app with a companion watchOS app for factory alert monitoring. What we want to achieve is: each server event is an independent event, not just a latest-state update events should not be dropped in some scenarios, new events may arrive as frequently as once per minute the watch app state/UI should reflect the event almost in real time our target is roughly within 5 seconds the watch app is expected to be opened by the user when they want to confirm details, but we want the data to already be there even if the watch app was previously in the background notification mirroring is already sufficient for immediate user awareness; the question is about reliable background data/state delivery to the watch app Our current architecture is: The server sends APNs pushes to the iPhone app. We use both: alert pushes for user-visible notifications background pushes (content-available: 1, apns-push-type: background, apns-priority: 5) for background data delivery When the iPhone app receives the push, it relays data to the watch using WatchConnectivity. On the iPhone/watch side: we use sendMessage when reachable / foreground-like communication is possible we use transferUserInfo as the background / unreachable fallback The devices are paired and connected, and the apps are not force-quit. In practice, the behavior is not stable enough for this requirement: some background deliveries are delayed some relays to the watch are not timely the end-to-end behavior is not reliable enough for independent event delivery with near-real-time expectations My understanding is that: APNs background pushes are not guaranteed and may be throttled WatchConnectivity background delivery is opportunistic immediate WC messaging depends on reachability / active state So the main question is not how to debug a single implementation issue, but whether our expectation is valid at all on Apple platforms. Questions: Is this architecture fundamentally unsuitable if the requirement is lossless, near-real-time event delivery from server -> iPhone -> watch, with a target of roughly within 5 seconds? Even if the implementation is correct, should we expect iPhone background push + WatchConnectivity relay to remain inherently non-deterministic for this kind of requirement, especially in scenarios where events may occur approximately once per minute? If notification mirroring is used only for user awareness, but the watch app still needs reliable background state/data delivery before the user opens it, is there any Apple-supported architecture for that? Would direct delivery to the watch app be the only realistic direction, or is this level of reliability/latency simply not a supported expectation for general-purpose apps? We understand that background execution and delivery are managed opportunistically by the system. What I want to confirm is whether this requirement itself is outside the practical/supported envelope of APNs background push + WatchConnectivity relay.

Not receiving apple server notification v2 on production URL
Hello, previously i have tested the purchase via test flight and the server notification was sent to my sandbox url. Now when I made the purchase from live app, my server did not receive any notification even though the production url was the same as the sandbox url. The purchase was for a consumable product. Please help, thanks.

APNS Connection Timed out
This error has been continuously occurring for about 9 hours. We have not replaced the certificate, modified the server code, or changed the firewall policy. Some requests succeed, but many are timing out, with several timeouts occurring every minute. We are unable to find the cause. Please help. Issue in background notification iOS 18
Issue: I am making an application that stores data locally from notifications fired from the server. Everything works fine in the foreground but the background is having problems with not being triggered when notifications are fired. So we tried firing 2 notifications at the same time, including default and silent types. But the problem continues to arise on ios 18, when firing multiple times like that, the trigger is not handling all notifications, leading to data loss. I tried on ios 15 and it worked fine. Environment: Device or Simulator: Iphone 11 pro max (iOS 18.3.2 Steps to Reproduce: Open app, allow received notification. Move app to background mode or terminate app. Sent 2 notifications: a. Default notification payload: { "aps": { "content-available": 1 }, ”notification”: {…}, “alert”: {..}, “data": "some_value" } b. Silent notification payload: { "aps": { "content-available": 1 }, ”data": "some_value" } What I've Tried: Trigger notification in function: application(_:didReceiveRemoteNotification:fetchCompletionHandler:) Handle write data to local storage in above function, put it in background thread also. Alternate App Icon Change Does Not Reflect in Notification Center on iOS 18.1+
Version: iOS 18.1 and later (works as expected on iOS 18.0 and earlier) Area: SpringBoard / Notification Center / App Icon Rendering Description: When changing the app's alternate icon using UIApplication.setAlternateIconName(_:completionHandler:), the icon is updated correctly on the Home Screen and App Switcher. However, in Notification Center, the old app icon is still shown for notifications, even after the change has completed. This issue only occurs on iOS 18.1 and later. In iOS 18.0 and earlier, Notification Center correctly reflects the updated icon. - Steps to reproduce: Create an iOS app with alternate app icons configured in the Info.plist. Use UIApplication.shared.setAlternateIconName("IconName") to change the icon at runtime. Send a notification. Pull down Notification Center and observe the icon shown beside the notification. - Expected Behavior: Notification Center should reflect the updated (alternate) app icon immediately after the change. - Actual Behavior: Notification Center continues to display the old (primary) app icon. The new icon appears correctly on the Home Screen and App Switcher. Restarting the device does cause Notification Center to update and reflect the correct icon, which suggests a cache or refresh issue in SpringBoard or Notification Center. - Notes: Issue introduced in iOS 18.1; not present in 18.0. Reproduces on both physical devices and simulators. Occurs with both scheduled local notifications and remote notifications. Restarting the device updates the Notification Center icon, but this is not a viable user-facing workaround.

Questions for AlarmKit
We are so interested in AlarmKit which is presented at WWDC25. While we planning our app using AlarmKit, We had a few questions come to mind and were hoping you could provide some clarity. Please excuse the rather long list of questions, as we don't currently have a device available to test these features ourselves. System Actions Related Is there a limit to the number of alarms that can be scheduled using AlarmKit? Are alarms scheduled with AlarmKit persistent across device reboots? When an alarm is dismissed (either by swiping or pressing the power button), can our app detect this action and execute code in response? Can we control the behavior of the physical Lock Screen buttons when an AlarmKit alarm is active, for instance, to trigger a snooze action? Does AlarmKit function correctly during Do Not Disturb or Low Power Mode? What is the expected behavior when an alarm from our app (using AlarmKit) overlaps with an alarm from another app that also uses AlarmKit? Which one is going to get its priority? SwiftUI: UNUserNotificationCenter delegate not called on cold start when opening notification
I'm sending local push notifications and want to show specific content based on the id of any notification the user opens. NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription only works for certain locales
I'm trying to provide custom localized descriptions for the iOS notification permission popup in my app, which supports multiple locales. No notification sound when CarPlay is connected
We're building a taxi driver app. Our goal is simple: Play a notification sound when a new ride request arrives — even if the iPhone is connected to CarPlay. We use Firebase push with "sound": "default" and "interruption-level": "time-sensitive". The app requests .carPlay and uses a category with .allowInCarPlay. Everything works when CarPlay is disconnected — we get sound and banner. But when connected to CarPlay: the push is delivered silently, no sound is played (even on the phone), Siri Announce is enabled, but nothing is spoken. Questions: Is notification sound blocked when CarPlay is active, unless the app has CarPlay entitlement? Is Siri Announce the only way to notify the driver audibly in this case? Would getting a CarPlay entitlement (e.g. CarPlay.communication) fix this without building a full CarPlay UI? Thanks — all we need is a reliable sound alert when a new ride comes in.

Is near-real-time, lossless event relay from iPhone background push to watchOS via WatchConnectivity a supported architecture?
We have an iPhone app with a companion watchOS app for factory alert monitoring. What we want to achieve is: each server event is an independent event, not just a latest-state update events should not be dropped in some scenarios, new events may arrive as frequently as once per minute the watch app state/UI should reflect the event almost in real time our target is roughly within 5 seconds the watch app is expected to be opened by the user when they want to confirm details, but we want the data to already be there even if the watch app was previously in the background notification mirroring is already sufficient for immediate user awareness; the question is about reliable background data/state delivery to the watch app Our current architecture is: The server sends APNs pushes to the iPhone app. We use both: alert pushes for user-visible notifications background pushes (content-available: 1, apns-push-type: background, apns-priority: 5) for background data delivery When the iPhone app receives the push, it relays data to the watch using WatchConnectivity. On the iPhone/watch side: we use sendMessage when reachable / foreground-like communication is possible we use transferUserInfo as the background / unreachable fallback The devices are paired and connected, and the apps are not force-quit. In practice, the behavior is not stable enough for this requirement: some background deliveries are delayed some relays to the watch are not timely the end-to-end behavior is not reliable enough for independent event delivery with near-real-time expectations My understanding is that: APNs background pushes are not guaranteed and may be throttled WatchConnectivity background delivery is opportunistic immediate WC messaging depends on reachability / active state So the main question is not how to debug a single implementation issue, but whether our expectation is valid at all on Apple platforms. Questions: Is this architecture fundamentally unsuitable if the requirement is lossless, near-real-time event delivery from server -> iPhone -> watch, with a target of roughly within 5 seconds? Even if the implementation is correct, should we expect iPhone background push + WatchConnectivity relay to remain inherently non-deterministic for this kind of requirement, especially in scenarios where events may occur approximately once per minute? If notification mirroring is used only for user awareness, but the watch app still needs reliable background state/data delivery before the user opens it, is there any Apple-supported architecture for that? Would direct delivery to the watch app be the only realistic direction, or is this level of reliability/latency simply not a supported expectation for general-purpose apps? We understand that background execution and delivery are managed opportunistically by the system. Not receiving apple server notification v2 on production URL
Hello, previously i have tested the purchase via test flight and the server notification was sent to my sandbox url. Now when I made the purchase from live app, my server did not receive any notification even though the production url was the same as the sandbox url. The purchase was for a consumable product. Please help, thanks.
