An error occurred when downloading a background assets packs hosted by Apple.
On macOS Tahoe26.0, iOS 26.0 (23A5287g), Xcode 26.0 beta 3 (17A5276g) 1、Follow this tutorial Downloading asset packs hosted by Apple When i download a background asset packs hosted by Apple, Xcode callback "Download failed: The helper received an invalid server response with the status code “400”." DTLS Handshake Fails When App Is in Background – Is This an iOS Limitation?
Hello, We are facing an issue with performing a DTLS handshake when our iOS application is in the background. Our app (Vocera Collaboration Suite – VCS) uses secure DTLS-encrypted communication for incoming VoIP calls. Problem Summary: When the app is in the background and a VoIP PushKit notification arrives, we attempt to establish a DTLS handshake over our existing socket. However, the handshake consistently fails unless the app is already in the foreground. Once the app is foregrounded, the same DTLS handshake logic succeeds immediately. Key Questions: Is performing a DTLS handshake while the app is in the background technically supported by iOS? Or is this an OS-level limitation by design? If not supported, what is the Apple-recommended alternative to establish secure DTLS communication for VoIP flows without bringing the app to the foreground? Any guidance or clarification from Apple engineers or anyone who has solved a similar problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Unable to understand Flow of Network extension for iOS
For a past few days, I have been exploring control Filter and data filter. I am unable to understand how control moves from various functions of data filter to control Filter. One thing that I am unable to figure out is that when I pass verdict as .allow in dataFilter's handleNewFlow and mark .shouldReport as true, I get inBytes and outbytes in the flow report of handle() in controlFilter. But when I pass verdict as needRules and wait till the handle is called in controlFilter when the report.event == .flowClosed, I don't get inBytes and outBytes. I am unable to understand this complete flow of network extension from the apple documentation. Can someone provide me with some flow chart or some pictorial representation or detailed explanation of network extension for iOS? Also is there some way to imitate the ..statisticsReportFrequency for iOS as it is not available for iOS?

Internet is blocked when `includeAllNetworks` is enabled and `NEHotspotHelper` is registered
Hello, We are facing what we believe is a compatibility issue with two networking APIs. If the Network extension VPN configuration has includeAllNetworks flag enabled and the NEHotspotHelper is registered. The user has internet connection but it is blocked, and there user will get internet back only after restarting the device. Prevent SSL Handshake with User Installed Certificates
how can I prevent handshake when certificate is user installed for example if user is using Proxyman or Charles proxy and they install their own certificates now system is trusting those certificates I wanna prevent that, and exclude those certificates that are installed by user, and accept the handshake if CA certificate is in a real valid certificate defined in OS I know this can be done in android by setting something like <network-security-config> <base-config> <trust-anchors> <certificates src="system" /> </trust-anchors> </base-config> </network-security-config>

Regression / Feature Request: Jumbo Frame (MTU 9000) support missing in AppleUserECM for RTL8156 2.5G USB adapters
Hello, I am currently developing a headless macOS daemon (HarmonBridge) that requires extremely low-latency, high-bandwidth UDP video streaming between a Mac and a Linux host over a dedicated 2.5GbE/5GbE local network link. We are utilizing widely available Realtek RTL8156 / RTL8156B based USB 2.5G network adapters. Under macOS, these adapters default to the generic com.apple.DriverKit.AppleUserECM driver. The hardware itself natively supports Jumbo Frames (MTU 9000), but the DriverKit implementation artificially restricts the MTU cap to 1500 bytes. Because we are forced through MTU 1500, we are incurring significant performance penalties: Excessive IP fragmentation for our large UDP video payloads. Unnecessary CPU overhead due to increased hardware interrupts and header processing at 2.5Gbps speeds. For a latency-critical application like ours, reducing CPU interrupts and utilizing true hardware-level Jumbo Frames is essential. My Questions: Is there an undocumented boot-arg or network sysctl parameter that permits overriding the AppleUserECM 1500 MTU hard-limit for 2.5G USB adapters on Apple Silicon? Are there any roadmap plans from the DriverKit/Networking team to re-enable standard Jumbo Frame negotiation for RTL8156 hardware using the generic ECM driver? If the answer to both is no, does Apple grant NetworkingDriverKit Entitlements to independent developers specifically for the purpose of writing custom hardware overrides to patch missing MTU features in the default ECM stack? Because AppleUserECM effectively acts as a gatekeeper to the underlying MAC/PHY capabilities of these modern USB NICs, any guidance on achieving wire-native MTU 9000 under the current DriverKit paradigm would be hugely appreciated. NEURLFilter production build fails with _NSURLErrorPrivacyProxyFailureKey — how to provision OHTTP privacy proxy for bundle?
Summary I'm implementing NEURLFilter with the com.apple.developer.networking.networkextension.url-filter-provider entitlement for a system-wide URL filtering feature. The feature works perfectly in development-signed builds (connecting successfully to my PIR server over extended testing) but every production-signed build fails before any network call is made. NEURLFilterManager reports .serverSetupIncomplete (code 9). After installing the NetworkExtension debug profile, the unredacted com.apple.CipherML logs reveal the cause: no privacy proxy is provisioned for this bundle identifier, and the connection is configured proxy fail closed. Environment iOS 26 Entitlement: com.apple.developer.networking.networkextension.url-filter-provider Extension point: com.apple.networkextension.url-filter-control PIR server configured via NEURLFilterManager.setConfiguration(...) What I've Verified The entitlement is present in the distribution build The NEURLFilterControlProvider extension loads and returns a valid Bloom filter prefilter (with a tag that round-trips correctly between extension and framework) NEURLFilterManager.setConfiguration(pirServerURL:pirPrivacyPassIssuerURL:pirAuthenticationToken:controlProviderBundleIdentifier:) accepts all four parameters without error Development-signed builds of the same bundle identifier connect successfully to the same PIR server On production-signed builds, zero requests reach the PIR server — failure is purely client-side, before any network activity The Question How does the OHTTP privacy proxy get provisioned for a bundle identifier so that production builds can successfully use NEURLFilter? Specifically: Is there a Capability Request form I need to submit for url-filter-provider? I cannot find one in the Capability Requests section of my developer portal. Should I be running my own OHTTP gateway (for example using swift-nio-oblivious-http), and if so, does Apple then need to provision routing from their OHTTP relay to my gateway URL? Is the OHTTP relay path meant to be automatic once the entitlement is active, and if so, is there a specific activation step I'm missing? Is there any way to verify the current provisioning state for a specific bundle identifier from the developer portal? I can provide the full sysdiagnose and unredacted bundle/server details privately to an Apple engineer if that would help diagnose. I'd prefer to keep them out of a public post. Thanks!

Bug: Wi-Fi Aware (NAN) Subscriber Mode: nwPath.availableInterfaces Does Not Include nan0 Interface After Successful Peer Connection
When using the official Wi-Fi Aware demo app on iOS, with the iOS device configured as a NAN Subscriber, after successfully establishing a peer-to-peer connection with another device via Wi-Fi Aware (NAN), the network path object nwPath.availableInterfaces does not list the nan0 virtual network interface. The nan0 interface is the dedicated NAN (Neighbor Aware Networking) interface used for Wi-Fi Aware data communication. Crash in URLConnectionLoader::loadWithWhatToDo
There are multiple report of crashes on URLConnectionLoader::loadWithWhatToDo. The crashed thread in the stack traces pointing to calls inside CFNetwork which seems to be internal library in iOS. The crash has happened quite a while already (but we cannot detect when the crash started to occur) and impacted multiple iOS versions recorded from iOS 15.4 to 18.4.1 that was recorded in Xcode crash report organizer so far. Unfortunately, we have no idea on how to reproduce it yet but the crash keeps on increasing and affect more on iOS 18 users (which makes sense because many people updated their iOS to the newer version) and we haven’t found any clue on what actually happened and how to fix it on the crash reports. What we understand is it seems to come from a network request that happened to trigger the crash but we need more information on what (condition) actually cause it and how to solve it. Hereby, I attach sample crash report for both iOS 15 and 18. I also have submitted a report (that include more crash reports) with number: FB17775979. Multipeer Connectivity stopped working between iPad simulators
We have an iPad application that utilizes Multipeer Connectivity to enable local communication between devices running a copy of our app. Until recently, we were able to test this functionality in the Xcode simulator without any issues. We could easily set up multiple simulators and have them all communicate with each other. However, recently, either due to an upgrade to Xcode or MacOS, this functionality ceased working in the simulator. Surprisingly, it still functions perfectly on physical devices. If we reboot the development computer and launch the simulator immediately after the reboot (without building and sending from Xcode, but running the existing code on the device), the issue resolves. However, the moment we generate a new build and send it to the simulator from Xcode, the multipeer functionality stops working again in the simulator. The simulators won’t reconnect until a reboot of the physical Mac hardware hosting the simulator. We’ve tried the usual troubleshooting steps, such as downgrading Xcode, deleting simulators and recreating them, cleaning the build folder, and deleting derived data, but unfortunately, none of these solutions have worked. The next step is to attempt to use a previous version of MacOS (15.3) and see if that helps, but I’d prefer to avoid this if possible. Does anyone have any obvious suggestions or troubleshooting steps that might help us identify the cause of this issue?

NEURLFilterManager Error 2 in macOS - How to Validate Configuration Parameters for setConfiguration or saveToPreferences
I'm currently testing URLFilter for use in a macOS product. After calling loadFromPreferences, I set the following configuration parameters: pirServerURL = URL(string: "http://localhost:8080")! pirAuthenticationToken = "AAAA" controlProviderBundleIdentifier = "{extension app bundle identifier}" However, when I call saveToPreferences, I get an Invalid Configuration error. Is there a way to determine which parameter is invalid or incorrectly set? Also, I would appreciate any macOS-specific examples of using NEURLFilterManager, as most of the documentation I’ve found seems to focus on iOS. Thank you.

Local Push Connectivity - Unreliable Connection
Hi! My project has the Local Push Connectivity entitlement for a feature we have requiring us to send low-latency critical notifications over a local, private Wi-Fi network. We have our NEAppPushProvider creating a SSE connection using the Network framework with our hardware running a server. The server sends a keep-alive message every second. On an iPhone 16 with iOS 18+, the connection is reliable and remains stable for hours, regardless of whether the iOS app is in the foreground, background, or killed. One of our QA engineers has been testing on an iPhone 13 running iOS 16, and has notice shortly after locking the phone, specifically when not connected to power the device seems to turn off the Wi-Fi radio. So when the server sends a notification, it is not received. About 30s later, it seems to be back on. This happens on regular intervals. When looking at our log data, the provider does seem to be getting stopped, then restarted shortly after. The reason code is NEProviderStopReasonNoNetworkAvailable, which further validates that the network is getting dropped by the device in regular intervals. My questions are: Were there possibly silent changes to the framework between iOS versions that could be the reason we're seeing inconsistent behavior? Is there a connection type we could use, instead of SSE, that would prevent the device from disconnecting and reconnecting to the Wi-Fi network? Is there an alternative approach to allow us to maintain a persistent network connection with the extension or app?

connect() iOS 18.5 Developer Beta (22EF5042g)
Hello! 👋 I am noticing new failures in the iOS 18.5 Developer Beta build (22EF5042g) when calling the system call connect() (from C++ source, in network extension). When using cell/mobile data (Mint & T-Mobile) this returns with EINTR (interrupted system call) right away. When I switch over to wifi, everything works fine. Note: I have not tested on other mobile carriers; which could make a difference since T-Mobile/Mint are IPv6 networks. FWIW, this is working in the previous developer beta (18.4). Anyone have any ideas?

NEPacketTunnelProvider Start Issue on macOS 14.5
We're encountering an issue with our Network Extension (utilizing NEPacketTunnelProvider and NETransparentProxy) on macOS 14.5 (23F79). On some systems, the VPN fails to automatically start after a reboot despite calling startVPNTunnel(). There are no error messages. Our code attempts to start the tunnel: ....... do { try manager.connection.startVPNTunnel() Logger.default("Started tunnel successfully") } catch { Logger.error("Failed to launch tunnel") } ...... System log analysis reveals the tunnel stopping due to userLogout (NEProviderStopReason(rawValue: 12)) during reboot. However, the Transparent Proxy stops due to userInitiated (NEProviderStopReason(rawValue: 1)) for the same reboot. We need to understand: Why the VPNTunnel isn't starting automatically. Why the userLogout reason is triggered during reboot. Additional Context: We have manually started the VPN from System Settings before reboot.

Bonjour connectivity issue
While trying to use Bonjour, i am encountering an issue. I was following the setup of Bonjour as described here: (https://aninterestingwebsite.com/forums/thread/735862) the response is this : nw_browser_fail_on_dns_error_locked [B2] nw_browser_dns_service_browse_callback failed: PolicyDenied(-65570) browser did change state, new: waiting(-65570: PolicyDenied) i tried modifying the info.plist to include NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription and NSBonjourServices but still getting the same a workout or solution is much appreciated !

Prevent SSL Handshake with User Installed Certificates
how can I prevent handshake when certificate is user installed for example if user is using Proxyman or Charles proxy and they install their own certificates now system is trusting those certificates I wanna prevent that, and exclude those certificates that are installed by user, and accept the handshake if CA certificate is in a real valid certificate defined in OS I know this can be done in android by setting something like <network-security-config> <base-config> <trust-anchors> <certificates src="system" /> </trust-anchors> </base-config> </network-security-config>

I haven’t come across any official documentation regarding the limit on the number of Network Extensions macOS can run. However, I did see some discussions suggesting that Apple might restrict this to 5 extensions in macOS Tahoe. Is there any official confirmation on this?

Regression / Feature Request: Jumbo Frame (MTU 9000) support missing in AppleUserECM for RTL8156 2.5G USB adapters
Hello, I am currently developing a headless macOS daemon (HarmonBridge) that requires extremely low-latency, high-bandwidth UDP video streaming between a Mac and a Linux host over a dedicated 2.5GbE/5GbE local network link. We are utilizing widely available Realtek RTL8156 / RTL8156B based USB 2.5G network adapters. Under macOS, these adapters default to the generic com.apple.DriverKit.AppleUserECM driver. The hardware itself natively supports Jumbo Frames (MTU 9000), but the DriverKit implementation artificially restricts the MTU cap to 1500 bytes. Because we are forced through MTU 1500, we are incurring significant performance penalties: Excessive IP fragmentation for our large UDP video payloads. Unnecessary CPU overhead due to increased hardware interrupts and header processing at 2.5Gbps speeds. For a latency-critical application like ours, reducing CPU interrupts and utilizing true hardware-level Jumbo Frames is essential. My Questions: Is there an undocumented boot-arg or network sysctl parameter that permits overriding the AppleUserECM 1500 MTU hard-limit for 2.5G USB adapters on Apple Silicon? Are there any roadmap plans from the DriverKit/Networking team to re-enable standard Jumbo Frame negotiation for RTL8156 hardware using the generic ECM driver? If the answer to both is no, does Apple grant NetworkingDriverKit Entitlements to independent developers specifically for the purpose of writing custom hardware overrides to patch missing MTU features in the default ECM stack? Because AppleUserECM effectively acts as a gatekeeper to the underlying MAC/PHY capabilities of these modern USB NICs, any guidance on achieving wire-native MTU 9000 under the current DriverKit paradigm would be hugely appreciated. NEURLFilter production build fails with _NSURLErrorPrivacyProxyFailureKey — how to provision OHTTP privacy proxy for bundle?
Summary I'm implementing NEURLFilter with the com.apple.developer.networking.networkextension.url-filter-provider entitlement for a system-wide URL filtering feature. The feature works perfectly in development-signed builds (connecting successfully to my PIR server over extended testing) but every production-signed build fails before any network call is made. NEURLFilterManager reports .serverSetupIncomplete (code 9). After installing the NetworkExtension debug profile, the unredacted com.apple.CipherML logs reveal the cause: no privacy proxy is provisioned for this bundle identifier, and the connection is configured proxy fail closed. Environment iOS 26 Entitlement: com.apple.developer.networking.networkextension.url-filter-provider Extension point: com.apple.networkextension.url-filter-control PIR server configured via NEURLFilterManager.setConfiguration(...) What I've Verified The entitlement is present in the distribution build The NEURLFilterControlProvider extension loads and returns a valid Bloom filter prefilter (with a tag that round-trips correctly between extension and framework) NEURLFilterManager.setConfiguration(pirServerURL:pirPrivacyPassIssuerURL:pirAuthenticationToken:controlProviderBundleIdentifier:) accepts all four parameters without error Development-signed builds of the same bundle identifier connect successfully to the same PIR server On production-signed builds, zero requests reach the PIR server — failure is purely client-side, before any network activity The Question How does the OHTTP privacy proxy get provisioned for a bundle identifier so that production builds can successfully use NEURLFilter? Specifically: Is there a Capability Request form I need to submit for url-filter-provider? I cannot find one in the Capability Requests section of my developer portal. Should I be running my own OHTTP gateway (for example using swift-nio-oblivious-http), and if so, does Apple then need to provision routing from their OHTTP relay to my gateway URL? Is the OHTTP relay path meant to be automatic once the entitlement is active, and if so, is there a specific activation step I'm missing? Is there any way to verify the current provisioning state for a specific bundle identifier from the developer portal? I can provide the full sysdiagnose and unredacted bundle/server details privately to an Apple engineer if that would help diagnose. I'd prefer to keep them out of a public post. Thanks!

Bug: Wi-Fi Aware (NAN) Subscriber Mode: nwPath.availableInterfaces Does Not Include nan0 Interface After Successful Peer Connection
When using the official Wi-Fi Aware demo app on iOS, with the iOS device configured as a NAN Subscriber, after successfully establishing a peer-to-peer connection with another device via Wi-Fi Aware (NAN), the network path object nwPath.availableInterfaces does not list the nan0 virtual network interface. The nan0 interface is the dedicated NAN (Neighbor Aware Networking) interface used for Wi-Fi Aware data communication. Crash in URLConnectionLoader::loadWithWhatToDo
There are multiple report of crashes on URLConnectionLoader::loadWithWhatToDo. The crashed thread in the stack traces pointing to calls inside CFNetwork which seems to be internal library in iOS. The crash has happened quite a while already (but we cannot detect when the crash started to occur) and impacted multiple iOS versions recorded from iOS 15.4 to 18.4.1 that was recorded in Xcode crash report organizer so far. Unfortunately, we have no idea on how to reproduce it yet but the crash keeps on increasing and affect more on iOS 18 users (which makes sense because many people updated their iOS to the newer version) and we haven’t found any clue on what actually happened and how to fix it on the crash reports. What we understand is it seems to come from a network request that happened to trigger the crash but we need more information on what (condition) actually cause it and how to solve it. Hereby, I attach sample crash report for both iOS 15 and 18. I also have submitted a report (that include more crash reports) with number: FB17775979. Multipeer Connectivity stopped working between iPad simulators
We have an iPad application that utilizes Multipeer Connectivity to enable local communication between devices running a copy of our app. Until recently, we were able to test this functionality in the Xcode simulator without any issues. We could easily set up multiple simulators and have them all communicate with each other. However, recently, either due to an upgrade to Xcode or MacOS, this functionality ceased working in the simulator. Surprisingly, it still functions perfectly on physical devices. If we reboot the development computer and launch the simulator immediately after the reboot (without building and sending from Xcode, but running the existing code on the device), the issue resolves. However, the moment we generate a new build and send it to the simulator from Xcode, the multipeer functionality stops working again in the simulator. The simulators won’t reconnect until a reboot of the physical Mac hardware hosting the simulator. We’ve tried the usual troubleshooting steps, such as downgrading Xcode, deleting simulators and recreating them, cleaning the build folder, and deleting derived data, but unfortunately, none of these solutions have worked. The next step is to attempt to use a previous version of MacOS (15.3) and see if that helps, but I’d prefer to avoid this if possible. Does anyone have any obvious suggestions or troubleshooting steps that might help us identify the cause of this issue?

NEURLFilterManager Error 2 in macOS - How to Validate Configuration Parameters for setConfiguration or saveToPreferences
I'm currently testing URLFilter for use in a macOS product. After calling loadFromPreferences, I set the following configuration parameters: pirServerURL = URL(string: "http://localhost:8080")! pirAuthenticationToken = "AAAA" controlProviderBundleIdentifier = "{extension app bundle identifier}" However, when I call saveToPreferences, I get an Invalid Configuration error. Is there a way to determine which parameter is invalid or incorrectly set? Also, I would appreciate any macOS-specific examples of using NEURLFilterManager, as most of the documentation I’ve found seems to focus on iOS. Thank you.

Local Push Connectivity - Unreliable Connection
Hi! My project has the Local Push Connectivity entitlement for a feature we have requiring us to send low-latency critical notifications over a local, private Wi-Fi network. We have our NEAppPushProvider creating a SSE connection using the Network framework with our hardware running a server. The server sends a keep-alive message every second. On an iPhone 16 with iOS 18+, the connection is reliable and remains stable for hours, regardless of whether the iOS app is in the foreground, background, or killed. One of our QA engineers has been testing on an iPhone 13 running iOS 16, and has notice shortly after locking the phone, specifically when not connected to power the device seems to turn off the Wi-Fi radio. So when the server sends a notification, it is not received. About 30s later, it seems to be back on. This happens on regular intervals. When looking at our log data, the provider does seem to be getting stopped, then restarted shortly after. The reason code is NEProviderStopReasonNoNetworkAvailable, which further validates that the network is getting dropped by the device in regular intervals. My questions are: Were there possibly silent changes to the framework between iOS versions that could be the reason we're seeing inconsistent behavior? Is there a connection type we could use, instead of SSE, that would prevent the device from disconnecting and reconnecting to the Wi-Fi network? Is there an alternative approach to allow us to maintain a persistent network connection with the extension or app?

connect() iOS 18.5 Developer Beta (22EF5042g)
Hello! 👋 I am noticing new failures in the iOS 18.5 Developer Beta build (22EF5042g) when calling the system call connect() (from C++ source, in network extension). When using cell/mobile data (Mint & T-Mobile) this returns with EINTR (interrupted system call) right away. When I switch over to wifi, everything works fine. Note: I have not tested on other mobile carriers; which could make a difference since T-Mobile/Mint are IPv6 networks. FWIW, this is working in the previous developer beta (18.4). Anyone have any ideas?

NEPacketTunnelProvider Start Issue on macOS 14.5
We're encountering an issue with our Network Extension (utilizing NEPacketTunnelProvider and NETransparentProxy) on macOS 14.5 (23F79). On some systems, the VPN fails to automatically start after a reboot despite calling startVPNTunnel(). There are no error messages. Our code attempts to start the tunnel: ....... do { try manager.connection.startVPNTunnel() Logger.default("Started tunnel successfully") } catch { Logger.error("Failed to launch tunnel") } ...... System log analysis reveals the tunnel stopping due to userLogout (NEProviderStopReason(rawValue: 12)) during reboot. However, the Transparent Proxy stops due to userInitiated (NEProviderStopReason(rawValue: 1)) for the same reboot. We need to understand: Why the VPNTunnel isn't starting automatically. Why the userLogout reason is triggered during reboot. Additional Context: We have manually started the VPN from System Settings before reboot.

Bonjour connectivity issue
While trying to use Bonjour, i am encountering an issue. I was following the setup of Bonjour as described here: (https://aninterestingwebsite.com/forums/thread/735862) the response is this : nw_browser_fail_on_dns_error_locked [B2] nw_browser_dns_service_browse_callback failed: PolicyDenied(-65570) browser did change state, new: waiting(-65570: PolicyDenied) i tried modifying the info.plist to include NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription and NSBonjourServices but still getting the same a workout or solution is much appreciated !
