CKSyncEngine initial sync on a new device
I have implemented CKSyncEngine synchronization, and it works well. I can update data on one device and see the changes propagate to another device quickly. However, the initial sync when a user downloads the app on a new device is a significant issue for both me and my users. One problem is that the sync engine fetches deletion events from the server. On a new device, the local database is empty, so these deletions are essentially no-ops. This would not be a big problem if there were only a few records or if it was fast. I measured the initial sync and found that there are 150 modified records and 62,168 deletions. Counting these alone takes over five minutes, even without processing them. The deletions do nothing because the local database has nothing to delete, yet they still add a significant delay. I understand that the sync engine ensures consistency across all devices, but five minutes of waiting with the app open just to insert a small number of records is excessive. The problem would be worse if there were tens of thousands of new records to insert, since downloading and saving the data would take even longer. This leads to a poor user experience. Users open the app and see data being populated for several minutes, or they are stuck on a screen that says the data is being synchronized with iCloud. I am wondering if there is a way to make the sync engine ignore deletion events when the state serialization is nil. Alternatively, is there a recommended method for handling initial synchronization more efficiently? One idea I considered is storing all the data as a backup in iCloud Documents, along with the state serialization at that point in time. When a user opens the app for the first time, I could download the file, extract the data, and set the state serialization to the saved value. I am not sure if this would work. I do not know if state serialization is tied to the device or if it only represents the point where the sync engine left off. My guess is that it might reference some local device storage. I am not sure what else to try. I could fetch all data using CloudKit, create the sync engine with an empty state serialization, and let it fetch everything again, but that would still take a long time. My records are very small, mostly a date when something happened and an ID referencing the parent. Since the app tracks watched episodes, I only store the date the user watched the episode and the ID of that episode.

'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Duplicate version checksums across stages detected.'
I have an iOS app using SwiftData with VersionedSchema. The schema is synchronized with an CloudKit container. I previously introduced some model properties that I have now removed, as they are no longer needed. This results in the current schema version being identical to one of the previous ones (except for its version number). This results in the following exception: 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Duplicate version checksums across stages detected.' So it looks like we cannot have a newer schema version with an identical content to an older schema version. The intuitive way would be to re-add the old (identical) schema version to the end of the "schemas" list property in the SchemaMigrationPlan, in order to signal that it is the newest one, and to add a migration stage back to it, thus: public enum MySchemaMigrationPlan: SchemaMigrationPlan { public static var schemas: [any VersionedSchema.Type] { [ SchemaV100.self, SchemaV101.self, SchemaV100.self ] } public static var stages: [MigrationStage] { [ migrateV100toV101, migrateV101toV100 ] } However, I am not sure if this is the right way to go, as previously, as I wanted to write unit tests for schema migration and rollback, I tried defining an inverse for each migration stage, so that I could trigger a migration and a rollback from a unit test, which resulted in an exception saying that it is not supported to downgrade a VersionedSchema. I must admit that I solved the original problem by introducing a dummy model property that I will later remove. What would have been the correct approach?

CloudKit with Unreal Engine
Hi everyone, Im trying to set up CloudKit for my Unreal Engine 5.4 project but seem to be hitting some roadblocks on how to set up the Record Types. From my understanding I need to set up a "file" record type with a "contents" asset field - but even with this it doesn't seem to work :( Any unreal engine devs with some experience on this who could help me out? Invalid bundle ID for container
Hi. I am having this error when trying to write to CloudKit public database. <CKError 0x600000dbc4e0: "Permission Failure" (10/2007); server message = "Invalid bundle ID for container"; On app launch, I check for account status and ensure that the correct bundle identifier and container is being used. Best approach to prevent SwiftData .transformable migration on iOS 26.1
We have an unreleased SwiftData app for iOS18+. While we were testing I saw reports on the forum about unexpected database migrations for codable arrays on iOS26.1. I'd like to ask a couple of questions: 1- Does this issue originate from the new Xcode version, or is it specific to iOS 26.1? 2- Is it possible to change our attribute so that users on older iOS versions receive the same model, preventing a migration from being triggered when they upgrade to iOS 26.1? Core Data, Swift 6, Concurrency and more
I have the following struct doing some simple tasks, running a network request and then saving items to Core Data. Per Xcode 26's new default settings (onisolated(nonsending) & defaultIsolation set to MainActor), the struct and its functions run on the main actor, which works fine and I can even safely omit the context.perform call because of it, which is great. struct DataHandler { func importGames(withIDs ids: [Int]) async throws { ... let context = PersistenceController.shared.container.viewContext for game in games { let newGame = GYGame(context: context) newGame.id = UUID() } try context.save() } } Now, I want to run this in a background thread to increase performance and responsiveness. So I followed this session (https://aninterestingwebsite.com/videos/play/wwdc2025/270) and believe the solution is to mark the struct as nonisolated and the function itself as @concurrent. The function now works on a background thread, but I receive a crash: _dispatch_assert_queue_fail. This happens whether I wrap the Core Data calls with context.perform or not. Alongside that I get a few new warnings which I have no idea how to work around. So, what am I doing wrong here? What's the correct way to solve this simple use case with Swift 6's new concurrency stuff and the default main actor isolation in Xcode 26? SwiftData Background Fetching?
Hi, I am experiencing main thread freezes from fetching on Main Actor. Attempting to move the function to a background thread, but whenever I reference the TestModel in a nonisolated context or in another model actor, I get this warning: Main actor-isolated conformance of 'TestModel' to 'PersistentModel' cannot be used in actor-isolated context; this is an error in the Swift 6 language mode Is there a way to do this correctly? Stopping certain data models from syncing to cloudkit
Hi all, I am using SwiftData and cloudkit and I am having an extremely persistent bug. I am building an education section on a app that's populated with lessons via a local JSON file. I don't need this lesson data to sync to cloudkit as the lessons are static, just need them imported into swiftdata so I've tried to use the modelcontainer like this: static func createSharedModelContainer() -> ModelContainer { // --- Define Model Groups --- let localOnlyModels: [any PersistentModel.Type] = [ Lesson.self, MiniLesson.self, Quiz.self, Question.self ] let cloudKitSyncModels: [any PersistentModel.Type] = [ User.self, DailyTip.self, UserSubscription.self, UserEducationProgress.self // User progress syncs ] However, what happens is that I still get Lesson and MiniLesson record types on cloudkit and for some reason as well, whenever I update the data models or delete and reinstall the app on simulator, the lessons duplicate (what seems to happen is that a set of lessons comes from the JSON file as it should), and then 1-2 seconds later, an older set of lessons gets synced from cloudkit. I can delete the old set of lessons if I just delete the lessons and mini lessons record types, but if I update the data model again, this error reccurrs. Sorry, I don't know if I managed to explain this well but essentially I just want to stop the lessons and minilessons from being uploaded to cloudkit as I think this will fix the problem. Am I doing something wrong with the code?

Mutating an array of model objects that is a child of a model object
Hi all, In my SwiftUI / SwiftData / Cloudkit app which is a series of lists, I have a model object called Project which contains an array of model objects called subprojects: final class Project1 { var name: String = "" @Relationship(deleteRule: .cascade, inverse: \Subproject.project) var subprojects : [Subproject]? init(name: String) { self.name = name self.subprojects = [] } } The user will select a project from a list, which will generate a list of subprojects in another list, and if they select a subproject, it will generate a list categories and if the user selects a category it will generate another list of child objects owned by category and on and on. This is the pattern in my app, I'm constantly passing arrays of model objects that are the children of other model objects throughout the program, and I need the user to be able to add and remove things from them. My initial approach was to pass these arrays as bindings so that I'd be able to mutate them. This worked for the most part but there were two problems: it was a lot of custom binding code and when I had to unwrap these bindings using init?(_ base: Binding<Value?>), my program would crash if one of these arrays became nil (it's some weird quirk of that init that I don't understand at al). As I'm still learning the framework, I had not realized that the @model macro had automatically made my model objects observable, so I decided to remove the bindings and simply pass the arrays by reference, and while it seems these references will carry the most up to date version of the array, you cannot mutate them unless you have access to the parent and mutate it like such: project.subcategories?.removeAll { $0 == subcategory } project.subcategories?.append(subcategory) This is weirding me out because you can't unwrap subcategories before you try to mutate the array, it has to be done like above. In my code, I like to unwrap all optionals at the moment that I need the values stored in them and if not, I like to post an error to the user. Isn't that the point of optionals? So I don't understand why it's like this and ultimately am wondering if I'm using the correct design pattern for what I'm trying to accomplish or if I'm missing something? Any input would be much appreciated! Also, I do have a small MRE project if the explanation above wasn't clear enough, but I was unable to paste in here (too long), attach the zip or paste a link to Google Drive. Open to sharing it if anyone can tell me the best way to do so. Thanks!

No persistent stores error in SwiftData
I am following Apple's instruction to sync SwiftData with CloudKit. While initiating the ModelContainer, right after removing the store from Core Data, the error occurs: FAULT: NSInternalInconsistencyException: This NSPersistentStoreCoordinator has no persistent stores (unknown). It cannot perform a save operation.; (user info absent) I've tried removing default.store and its related files/folders before creating the ModelContainer with FileManager but it does not resolve the issue. Isn't it supposed to create a new store when the ModelContainer is initialized? I don't understand why this error occurs. Error disappears when I comment out the #if DEBUG block. CloudKit is not synchronizing with coredata for relationships
In core-data I have a contact and location entity. I have one-to-many relationship from contact to locations and one-to-one from location to contact. I create contact in a seperate view and save it. However for CD_Location it creates the relationship CD_contact as a string and references the CD_Contact. This I thought should have come as REFERENCE On the CD_Contact there is no CD_locations field at all. I do see the relationships being printed on coredata side but it does not come as REFERENCE on cloudkit. Spent over a day on this. Is this normal, what am I doing wrong here? Can someone advise?

CloudKit CKRecordZone Deletion Issue
CloudKit CKRecordZone Deletion Issue Problem: CloudKit record zones deleted via CKDatabase.modifyRecordZones(deleting:) or CKModifyRecordZonesOperation are successfully removed but then reappear. I suspect they are automatically reinstated by CloudKit sync, despite successful deletion confirmation. Environment: SwiftData with CloudKit integration Custom CloudKit zones created for legacy zone-based sharing Observed Behavior: Create custom zone (e.g., "TestZone1") via CKDatabase.modifyRecordZones(saving:) Copy records to zone for sharing purposes Delete zone using any CloudKit deletion API - returns success, no errors Immediate verification: Zone is gone from database.allRecordZones() After SwiftData/CloudKit sync or app restart: Zone reappears Reproduction: Tested with three different deletion methods - all exhibit same behaviour: modifyRecordZones(deleting:) async API CKModifyRecordZonesOperation (fire-and-forget) CKModifyRecordZonesOperation with result callbacks Zone deletion succeeds, change tokens (used to track updates to shared records) cleaned up But zones are restored presumably by CloudKit background sync Expected: Deleted zones should remain deleted Actual: Zones are reinstated, creating orphaned zones

Mac Assigning NSManagedObject to NSPersistentStore
Hello, I have a iOS app I was looking at porting to Mac. I'm having an issue with both the Mac (Designed for iPad) and Mac Catalyst Destinations. I can't test Mac due to too many build issues. I'm trying to assign a new NSManagedObject into a NSPersistentStore. let object = MyObject(context: context) context.assign(object, to: nsPersistentStore) This works fine for iOS/iOS Simulator/iPhone/iPad. But on the Mac it's crashing with FAULT: NSInvalidArgumentException: Can't assign an object to a store that does not contain the object's entity.; { Thread 1: "Can't assign an object to a store that does not contain the object's entity."

SwiftData Fatal error
I'm developing an app that uses CloudKit synchronization with SwiftData and on visionOS I added an App Settings bundle. I have noticed that sometimes, when the app is open and the user changes a setting from the App Settings bundle, the following fatal error occurs: SwiftData/BackingData.swift:831: Fatal error: This model instance was destroyed by calling ModelContext.reset and is no longer usable. The setting is read within the App struct in the visionOS app target using @AppStorage and this value is in turn used to set the passthrough video dimming via the .preferredSurroundingsEffect modifier. The setting allows the user to specify the dimming level as dark, semi dark, or ultra dark. The fatal error appears to occur intermittently although the first time it was observed was after adding the settings bundle. As such, I suspect there is some connection between those code changes and this fatal error even though they do not directly relate to SwiftData.

Can't get CloudKit to load data on cloud
The app works on a local db but when I try to make it work with iCloud I get errors that I don't understand. iCloud Drive changes in iOS 18.4 and later break stated API
The NSMetadataUbiquitousItemDownloadingStatusKey indicates the status of a ubiquitous (iCloud Drive) file. A key value of NSMetadataUbiquitousItemDownloadingStatusDownloaded is defined as indicating there is a local version of this file available. The most current version will get downloaded as soon as possible . However this no longer occurs since iOS 18.4. A ubiquitous file may remain in the NSMetadataUbiquitousItemDownloadingStatusDownloaded state for an indefinite period. There is a workaround: call [NSFileManager startDownloadingUbiquitousItemAtURL: error:] however this shouldn't be necessary, and introduces delays over the previous behaviour. iCloud Container Cannot Enable in Xcode — App ID Won’t Accept Container / Missing iCloud Documents Toggle
Hi everyone, I am experiencing an iCloud provisioning problem I cannot resolve, and Developer Support has not been able to help. My App ID: com.exaqservices.ArkyvTiles Symptoms: 1. In Xcode (v16.2), enabling iCloud in Signing & Capabilities repeatedly fails with: The app ID does not include the iCloud container. Click Try Again. Clicking Try Again does nothing. The error persists forever. 2. In Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles: • The iCloud capability is enabled for this App ID. • The CloudKit container is selected. • But the portal no longer shows the “iCloud Documents” checkbox, which used to be required for ubiquitous document support. 3. Xcode cannot regenerate provisioning profiles because it claims the App ID is missing the iCloud container — even though the container is attached. 4. Provisioning profiles on the Apple Developer site all appear expired, and new ones do not generate correctly. 5. The App Store Connect interface also does not show an iCloud Services section under App Information → Capabilities as older guides describe. Expected Behavior: Since iCloud and the CloudKit container are enabled on the App ID, Xcode should successfully enable: • com.apple.developer.icloud-services • com.apple.developer.icloud-container-identifiers • com.apple.developer.ubiquity-container-identifiers (if needed) • com.apple.developer.ubiquity-kvstore-identifier Instead, the entitlements never propagate. What I suspect: This seems like an App ID metadata mismatch or a stale backend entry where: • the CloudKit container is attached but the entitlement isn’t linked, • the “iCloud Documents” flag is missing due to a UI transition, • provisioning profiles cannot be regenerated because the App ID is not updating correctly. What I need help with: Can someone from Apple engineering confirm: • Whether my App ID metadata is corrupted, • If entitlements need to be manually refreshed, • Or if the “iCloud Documents” toggle has moved or is no longer exposed? Will transferring app affect iCloud's Documents folder access?
My app uses iCloud to let users sync their files via their private iCloud Drive, which does not use CloudKit. FileManager.default.url(forUbiquityContainerIdentifier: nil)?.appending(component: "Documents") I plan to transfer my app to another developer account, but I'm afraid it will affect the access of the app to the existing files in that folder. Apple documentation doesn't mention this case. Has anyone done this before and can confirm if the app will continue to work normally after transferring? Thanks

CKSyncEngine initial sync on a new device
I have implemented CKSyncEngine synchronization, and it works well. I can update data on one device and see the changes propagate to another device quickly. However, the initial sync when a user downloads the app on a new device is a significant issue for both me and my users. One problem is that the sync engine fetches deletion events from the server. On a new device, the local database is empty, so these deletions are essentially no-ops. This would not be a big problem if there were only a few records or if it was fast. I measured the initial sync and found that there are 150 modified records and 62,168 deletions. Counting these alone takes over five minutes, even without processing them. The deletions do nothing because the local database has nothing to delete, yet they still add a significant delay. I understand that the sync engine ensures consistency across all devices, but five minutes of waiting with the app open just to insert a small number of records is excessive. The problem would be worse if there were tens of thousands of new records to insert, since downloading and saving the data would take even longer. This leads to a poor user experience. Users open the app and see data being populated for several minutes, or they are stuck on a screen that says the data is being synchronized with iCloud. I am wondering if there is a way to make the sync engine ignore deletion events when the state serialization is nil. Alternatively, is there a recommended method for handling initial synchronization more efficiently? One idea I considered is storing all the data as a backup in iCloud Documents, along with the state serialization at that point in time. When a user opens the app for the first time, I could download the file, extract the data, and set the state serialization to the saved value. I am not sure if this would work. I do not know if state serialization is tied to the device or if it only represents the point where the sync engine left off. My guess is that it might reference some local device storage. I am not sure what else to try. I could fetch all data using CloudKit, create the sync engine with an empty state serialization, and let it fetch everything again, but that would still take a long time. My records are very small, mostly a date when something happened and an ID referencing the parent. Since the app tracks watched episodes, I only store the date the user watched the episode and the ID of that episode.

'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Duplicate version checksums across stages detected.'
I have an iOS app using SwiftData with VersionedSchema. The schema is synchronized with an CloudKit container. I previously introduced some model properties that I have now removed, as they are no longer needed. This results in the current schema version being identical to one of the previous ones (except for its version number). This results in the following exception: 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Duplicate version checksums across stages detected.' So it looks like we cannot have a newer schema version with an identical content to an older schema version. The intuitive way would be to re-add the old (identical) schema version to the end of the "schemas" list property in the SchemaMigrationPlan, in order to signal that it is the newest one, and to add a migration stage back to it, thus: public enum MySchemaMigrationPlan: SchemaMigrationPlan { public static var schemas: [any VersionedSchema.Type] { [ SchemaV100.self, SchemaV101.self, SchemaV100.self ] } public static var stages: [MigrationStage] { [ migrateV100toV101, migrateV101toV100 ] } However, I am not sure if this is the right way to go, as previously, as I wanted to write unit tests for schema migration and rollback, I tried defining an inverse for each migration stage, so that I could trigger a migration and a rollback from a unit test, which resulted in an exception saying that it is not supported to downgrade a VersionedSchema. I must admit that I solved the original problem by introducing a dummy model property that I will later remove. What would have been the correct approach?

Invalid bundle ID for container
Hi. I am having this error when trying to write to CloudKit public database. <CKError 0x600000dbc4e0: "Permission Failure" (10/2007); server message = "Invalid bundle ID for container"; On app launch, I check for account status and ensure that the correct bundle identifier and container is being used. Best approach to prevent SwiftData .transformable migration on iOS 26.1
We have an unreleased SwiftData app for iOS18+. While we were testing I saw reports on the forum about unexpected database migrations for codable arrays on iOS26.1. I'd like to ask a couple of questions: 1- Does this issue originate from the new Xcode version, or is it specific to iOS 26.1? 2- Is it possible to change our attribute so that users on older iOS versions receive the same model, preventing a migration from being triggered when they upgrade to iOS 26.1? Core Data, Swift 6, Concurrency and more
I have the following struct doing some simple tasks, running a network request and then saving items to Core Data. Per Xcode 26's new default settings (onisolated(nonsending) & defaultIsolation set to MainActor), the struct and its functions run on the main actor, which works fine and I can even safely omit the context.perform call because of it, which is great. struct DataHandler { func importGames(withIDs ids: [Int]) async throws { ... let context = PersistenceController.shared.container.viewContext for game in games { let newGame = GYGame(context: context) newGame.id = UUID() } try context.save() } } Now, I want to run this in a background thread to increase performance and responsiveness. The function now works on a background thread, but I receive a crash: _dispatch_assert_queue_fail. This happens whether I wrap the Core Data calls with context.perform or not. Alongside that I get a few new warnings which I have no idea how to work around. So, what am I doing wrong here? What's the correct way to solve this simple use case with Swift 6's new concurrency stuff and the default main actor isolation in Xcode 26? SwiftData Background Fetching?
Hi, I am experiencing main thread freezes from fetching on Main Actor. Attempting to move the function to a background thread, but whenever I reference the TestModel in a nonisolated context or in another model actor, I get this warning: Main actor-isolated conformance of 'TestModel' to 'PersistentModel' cannot be used in actor-isolated context; this is an error in the Swift 6 language mode Is there a way to do this correctly? Stopping certain data models from syncing to cloudkit
Hi all, I am using SwiftData and cloudkit and I am having an extremely persistent bug. I am building an education section on a app that's populated with lessons via a local JSON file. I don't need this lesson data to sync to cloudkit as the lessons are static, just need them imported into swiftdata so I've tried to use the modelcontainer like this: static func createSharedModelContainer() -> ModelContainer { // --- Define Model Groups --- let localOnlyModels: [any PersistentModel.Type] = [ Lesson.self, MiniLesson.self, Quiz.self, Question.self ] let cloudKitSyncModels: [any PersistentModel.Type] = [ User.self, DailyTip.self, UserSubscription.self, UserEducationProgress.self // User progress syncs ] However, what happens is that I still get Lesson and MiniLesson record types on cloudkit and for some reason as well, whenever I update the data models or delete and reinstall the app on simulator, the lessons duplicate (what seems to happen is that a set of lessons comes from the JSON file as it should), and then 1-2 seconds later, an older set of lessons gets synced from cloudkit. I can delete the old set of lessons if I just delete the lessons and mini lessons record types, but if I update the data model again, this error reccurrs. Sorry, I don't know if I managed to explain this well but essentially I just want to stop the lessons and minilessons from being uploaded to cloudkit as I think this will fix the problem. Am I doing something wrong with the code?

Mutating an array of model objects that is a child of a model object
Hi all, In my SwiftUI / SwiftData / Cloudkit app which is a series of lists, I have a model object called Project which contains an array of model objects called subprojects: final class Project1 { var name: String = "" @Relationship(deleteRule: .cascade, inverse: \Subproject.project) var subprojects : [Subproject]? init(name: String) { self.name = name self.subprojects = [] } } The user will select a project from a list, which will generate a list of subprojects in another list, and if they select a subproject, it will generate a list categories and if the user selects a category it will generate another list of child objects owned by category and on and on. This is the pattern in my app, I'm constantly passing arrays of model objects that are the children of other model objects throughout the program, and I need the user to be able to add and remove things from them. My initial approach was to pass these arrays as bindings so that I'd be able to mutate them. This worked for the most part but there were two problems: it was a lot of custom binding code and when I had to unwrap these bindings using init?(_ base: Binding<Value?>), my program would crash if one of these arrays became nil (it's some weird quirk of that init that I don't understand at al). As I'm still learning the framework, I had not realized that the @model macro had automatically made my model objects observable, so I decided to remove the bindings and simply pass the arrays by reference, and while it seems these references will carry the most up to date version of the array, you cannot mutate them unless you have access to the parent and mutate it like such: project.subcategories?.removeAll { $0 == subcategory } project.subcategories?.append(subcategory) This is weirding me out because you can't unwrap subcategories before you try to mutate the array, it has to be done like above. In my code, I like to unwrap all optionals at the moment that I need the values stored in them and if not, I like to post an error to the user. Isn't that the point of optionals? So I don't understand why it's like this and ultimately am wondering if I'm using the correct design pattern for what I'm trying to accomplish or if I'm missing something? Any input would be much appreciated! Also, I do have a small MRE project if the explanation above wasn't clear enough, but I was unable to paste in here (too long), attach the zip or paste a link to Google Drive. No persistent stores error in SwiftData
I am following Apple's instruction to sync SwiftData with CloudKit. While initiating the ModelContainer, right after removing the store from Core Data, the error occurs: FAULT: NSInternalInconsistencyException: This NSPersistentStoreCoordinator has no persistent stores (unknown). It cannot perform a save operation.; (user info absent) I've tried removing default.store and its related files/folders before creating the ModelContainer with FileManager but it does not resolve the issue. Isn't it supposed to create a new store when the ModelContainer is initialized? I don't understand why this error occurs. Error disappears when I comment out the #if DEBUG block. CloudKit is not synchronizing with coredata for relationships
In core-data I have a contact and location entity. I have one-to-many relationship from contact to locations and one-to-one from location to contact. I create contact in a seperate view and save it. However for CD_Location it creates the relationship CD_contact as a string and references the CD_Contact. This I thought should have come as REFERENCE On the CD_Contact there is no CD_locations field at all. I do see the relationships being printed on coredata side but it does not come as REFERENCE on cloudkit. Spent over a day on this. Is this normal, what am I doing wrong here? Can someone advise?

Mac Assigning NSManagedObject to NSPersistentStore
Hello, I have a iOS app I was looking at porting to Mac. I'm having an issue with both the Mac (Designed for iPad) and Mac Catalyst Destinations. I can't test Mac due to too many build issues. I'm trying to assign a new NSManagedObject into a NSPersistentStore. let object = MyObject(context: context) context.assign(object, to: nsPersistentStore) This works fine for iOS/iOS Simulator/iPhone/iPad. SwiftData Fatal error
I'm developing an app that uses CloudKit synchronization with SwiftData and on visionOS I added an App Settings bundle. I have noticed that sometimes, when the app is open and the user changes a setting from the App Settings bundle, the following fatal error occurs: SwiftData/BackingData.swift:831: Fatal error: This model instance was destroyed by calling ModelContext.reset and is no longer usable. The setting is read within the App struct in the visionOS app target using @AppStorage and this value is in turn used to set the passthrough video dimming via the .preferredSurroundingsEffect modifier. The setting allows the user to specify the dimming level as dark, semi dark, or ultra dark. The fatal error appears to occur intermittently although the first time it was observed was after adding the settings bundle. As such, I suspect there is some connection between those code changes and this fatal error even though they do not directly relate to SwiftData.

Can't get CloudKit to load data on cloud
The app works on a local db but when I try to make it work with iCloud I get errors that I don't understand. iCloud Drive changes in iOS 18.4 and later break stated API
The NSMetadataUbiquitousItemDownloadingStatusKey indicates the status of a ubiquitous (iCloud Drive) file. A key value of NSMetadataUbiquitousItemDownloadingStatusDownloaded is defined as indicating there is a local version of this file available. The most current version will get downloaded as soon as possible . However this no longer occurs since iOS 18.4. A ubiquitous file may remain in the NSMetadataUbiquitousItemDownloadingStatusDownloaded state for an indefinite period. There is a workaround: call [NSFileManager startDownloadingUbiquitousItemAtURL: error:] however this shouldn't be necessary, and introduces delays over the previous behaviour. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? Is this a permanent change? FB17662379

SwiftData Migration: Why no explicit ETL?
When I used to do Migrations, I always used ETL and then push to a dev system to review/test before going production. The migration support is SwiftData is fine for a little tweak. I might as well just just use new schema and context and write the custom code than use the SwiftData migration support.

iCloud Container Cannot Enable in Xcode — App ID Won’t Accept Container / Missing iCloud Documents Toggle
Hi everyone, I am experiencing an iCloud provisioning problem I cannot resolve, and Developer Support has not been able to help. My App ID: com.exaqservices.ArkyvTiles Symptoms: 1. In Xcode (v16.2), enabling iCloud in Signing & Capabilities repeatedly fails with: The app ID does not include the iCloud container. Click Try Again. Clicking Try Again does nothing. The error persists forever. 2. In Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles: • The iCloud capability is enabled for this App ID. • The CloudKit container is selected. • But the portal no longer shows the “iCloud Documents” checkbox, which used to be required for ubiquitous document support. 3. Xcode cannot regenerate provisioning profiles because it claims the App ID is missing the iCloud container — even though the container is attached. 4. Provisioning profiles on the Apple Developer site all appear expired, and new ones do not generate correctly. 5. The App Store Connect interface also does not show an iCloud Services section under App Information → Capabilities as older guides describe. Expected Behavior: Since iCloud and the CloudKit container are enabled on the App ID, Xcode should successfully enable: • com.apple.developer.icloud-services • com.apple.developer.icloud-container-identifiers • com.apple.developer.ubiquity-container-identifiers (if needed) • com.apple.developer.ubiquity-kvstore-identifier Instead, the entitlements never propagate. What I suspect: This seems like an App ID metadata mismatch or a stale backend entry where: • the CloudKit container is attached but the entitlement isn’t linked, • the “iCloud Documents” flag is missing due to a UI transition, • provisioning profiles cannot be regenerated because the App ID is not updating correctly. What I need help with: Can someone from Apple engineering confirm: • Whether my App ID metadata is corrupted, • If entitlements need to be manually refreshed, • Or if the “iCloud Documents” toggle has moved or is no longer exposed? This is blocking development completely — I cannot build, sign, or deploy the app with iCloud. Thank you! Alan Metzger

Will transferring app affect iCloud's Documents folder access?
My app uses iCloud to let users sync their files via their private iCloud Drive, which does not use CloudKit. FileManager.default.url(forUbiquityContainerIdentifier: nil)?.appending(component: "Documents") I plan to transfer my app to another developer account, but I'm afraid it will affect the access of the app to the existing files in that folder. Apple documentation doesn't mention this case. Has anyone done this before and can confirm if the app will continue to work normally after transferring? Thanks
