Live Caller ID Lookup Implementation
Hello I'm working on Live Caller ID Lookup implementation on my own pet-project, as I understood I need to create app and extension for this app. I also created test PIR-service. I did configure serviceURL, tokenIssuerURL and userTierToken. In My app I implemented following code Task { if LiveCallerIDLookupManager.shared.status(forExtensionWithIdentifier: "some-extension") == .disabled { `//` Show an alert. print("LiveCallerIDLookupManager is disabled") } do { // Open Settings. try await LiveCallerIDLookupManager.shared.openSettings() } catch { } It does open Call settings, but I don't understand what should I do next.

Background shield application reliability
Hello! I am working on a screentime app and wondering if anyone has had success achieving reliable background shield application while using com.apple.ManagedSettingsUI.shield-configuration-service? I recently switched from com.apple.deviceactivity.shield-configuration (which worked reliably but isn't accepted by TestFlight) and have not found any consistency getting shields to apply while the app is backgrounded. I believe this is a known limitation of ManagedSettingsUI and want to know if there are successful workarounds or any specific patterns/timing that improve consistency?

Locale.Script seems to be returning a value even though the language has no script
We just dropped support for iOS 16 in our app and migrated to the new properties on Locale to extract the language code, region, and script. However, after doing this we are seeing an issue where the script property is returning a value when the language has no script. Here is the initializer that we are using to populate the values. The identifier is coming from the preferredLanguages property that is found on Locale. init?(identifier: String) { let locale = Locale(identifier: identifier) guard let languageCode = locale.language.languageCode?.identifier else { return nil } language = languageCode region = locale.region?.identifier script = locale.language.script?.identifier } Whenever I inspect locale.language I see all of the correct values. However, when I inspect locale.language.script directly it is always returning Latn as the value. If I inspect the deprecated locale.scriptCode property it will return nil as expected. Here is an example from the debugger for en-AU. I also see the same for other languages such as en-AE, pt-BR. Since the language components show the script as nil, then I would expect locale.language.script?.identifier to also return nil.

Language detection
I have prepared a NSSpellServer spelling and grammar checker for Slovenian proofing in macOS. My proofing service gets used when I explicitly set keyboard spelling language to "Slovenian (Besana)" (my proofing tool). When I set keyboard language to Automatic by Language, system does the language detection. Since it has limited support for Slovenian language, it doesn't recognize the text as Slovenian and never asks my proofing service to check the spelling. It does consult my proofing service for spelling suggestions and when it does, I see the language parameter there is set to anything but Slovenian. Is it possible to install own language detector to macOS? Or, place some language dictionary files somewhere, the system could use to extend language detection to new languages?

CallKit speaker problem
I’m developing a VoIP app that uses Linphone and CallKit. Everything works as expected until the user enables the speaker on the native CallKit screen. After that, all subsequent calls start with the speaker already on. Even if I call AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().overrideOutputAudioPort(.none), it gets overridden when the call starts (when Linphone begins playing the ringtone). I tested this behavior in WhatsApp, and it seems to work correctly there.

AlarmKit can we automatically acknowledge the alarm or set a time period the alarm should alert for
My use case is a Repeat Timer app. The user can configure a repeating timer, say: 8 minutes with 3 sets So I would like to configure either 3 alarms (8mins, 16mins, 24mins) or a repeating alarm (8mins every 3 mins) BUT... I would like the first and second alarms to break through but only for 5 seconds for example, and then stop (so the user doesn't need to tap the screen to silence the alarm). I don't think this is possible after reading the API docs, but am asking the question anyway. Thanks for any advice or guidance here, and happy WWDC!

Critical Technical Issue: App Update Rendering iPhones Inoperative on iOS 16 Versions
We appreciate your suggestion to use the Apple Developer Forums. However, we must respectfully request further escalation of this issue beyond the forums for several critical reasons: Severity and Scope: This is not a general development discussion topic. We are facing a massive, reproducible performance issue on iOS 16 that renders devices unresponsive, requiring factory resets or DFU restores. This goes far beyond typical app bugs and points to a potential systemic issue in the OS's image handling. Insufficiency of Forum Support: While the forums are a valuable resource for community advice, they cannot provide the official, in-depth technical diagnosis from Apple engineers that this situation demands. Our users' devices are being bricked by an app update that passed App Review, and we require clarity on the root cause to prevent further damage and restore user trust. Code-Level Support Eligibility: As members of the Apple Developer Program, we believe our issue falls under the purview of Code-Level Support, as described on the Apple Developer website 9. Our problem involves "building or running software" and requires expertise in Apple's frameworks and hardware-level image rendering APIs. We request that our case be forwarded to that specialized team. To reiterate the core problem: Our update introduced 1024x1026 JPEG assets into the Asset Catalog. On iOS 16, this causes severe overheating, freezing, and device unresponsiveness. Replacing them with PNGs completely resolves the issue. This suggests a potentially serious regression in iOS 16's JPEG decoding or memory management pipeline. We prepared to provide a sample project that demonstrates the issue if required. Our case number is 102678393572. We urgently need to understand why this happens at the OS level to ensure our app is safe and to contribute to the stability of the iOS platform. Please escalate this case to the appropriate technical team for a detailed investigation. Sincerely,

How to register ContactProviderDomain
Hi there, we are implementing the new ContactProviderExtension introduced in iOS 18 and we are able to activate the extension, add data and everything. But we want to add domains to seperate contacts and currently we are getting an error "ContactProvider.ContactProviderError.domainNotRegistered". That makes sense because in the API docu we are not finding a way to register our domains. We are using ContactProviderDomain to create domains but we are not able to find any function to register. Could you please give a hint? Thank you

Eligibility for Default Dialer Capability in EU
Hello, I noticed the new entitlement in iOS 26 under LiveCommunicationKit: Preparing your app to be the default dialer app. My question is about eligibility: If a developer account is registered in the EU, can any app add the Default Dialer capability, or is it restricted only to apps that provide real calling/communication functionality (e.g., WhatsApp, Telegram, Skype)? If granted, does this capability allow the app to make/receive cellular calls and access call history, or is it limited only to VoIP-style scenarios through CallKit integration? What are the minimum functionalities required to support this feature (e.g., having a dial pad, call history screen, etc.)? Why must the developer account be registered in the EU to use this entitlement? Thanks in advance for the clarification!

Universal links stopped working, CDN responds with 404 for our domain
From some moment of time, Universal Links stopped working for our app. As per my understanding, application reinstall or update caused system to fetch AASA file from CDN, which started to reply with 404 for our domain (https://app-site-association.cdn-apple.com/a/v1/app.link.digidentity.eu). In the meantime, nothing has changed inside our app or on our BE (https://app.link.digidentity.eu/.well-known/apple-app-site-association). Associated Domains and location of the AASA file when “service”=”Authsrv”
We are planning to use our internal IdP (PingFederate) for authentication of end users in their iOS apps using ASWebAuthenticationSession. Initial tests are successful, but the user is prompted for every login (and logouts) with a consent dialogue box: “AppName” wants to use “internal domain-name” to Sign In This allows the app and website to share information about you. Cancel Continue” Let’s say that our top-level domain is “company.no”, where our IdP is placed at “idp.company.com”. I have seen examples where the Associated domains entitlement points to the idp as a webserver for serving the JSON output AASA file. In this case that would be: authsrv: idp.company.com Anyone with experience implementing this structure with the IdP as webserver for serving the JSON output? Our problem is that trying to use the IdP as webserver for this purpose is that it is very complicated to modify the IdP’s webserver configuration. Also, this modification needs to be re-done every time we need to upgrade the IdP. My question is therefore also related to the options of which webserver to install the AASA file on. Has anyone installed the file on a generic webserver on the toplevel domain like “webserver.company.com” ?

ContactProviderManager Fails with Custom domainIdentifier, Works Only with "defaultDomain"
Has anyone encountered a situation like mine below? I’ve submitted feedback, but it seems like I’ll have to wait for a while. ContactProviderManager Fails with Custom domainIdentifier, Works Only with "defaultDomain" Category: Developer Tools / Frameworks Subcategory: ContactProvider Framework Reproducibility: Always iOS Version: iOS 18.0 (and later) Xcode Version: Xcode 16.0 (or later) Description: When initializing a ContactProviderManager with a custom ContactProviderDomain using any identifier other than "defaultDomain", the initializer throws a ContactProviderError.domainNotRegistered error. The documentation for ContactProviderDomain (https://aninterestingwebsite.com/documentation/contactprovider/contactproviderdomain) does not provide any method to register custom identifiers, making it impossible to use ContactProviderManager with a desired custom identifier. The only successful case is when the identifier is "defaultDomain". print("Error: (error)") // No error, initialization succeeds Steps to Reproduce: Create a Contact Provider Extension in an iOS app targeting iOS 18.0. In host app, Attempt to initialize a ContactProviderManager with a custom ContactProviderDomain identifier: import ContactProvider func enableExtensionExample() async { do { // The app creates a contact provider manager with custom domain. let manager = try ContactProviderManager(domainIdentifier: "com.mycompany.customdomain") // May prompt the person to enable the custom domain. try await manager.enable() } catch { print("Error: \(error)") // Prints ContactProviderError.domainNotRegistered } } Try the same with the default identifier: import ContactProvider func enableExtensionExample() async { do { // The app creates a contact provider manager with a default domain. let manager = try ContactProviderManager(domainIdentifier: "defaultDomain") // May prompt the person to enable the default domain. try await manager.enable() } catch { print("Error: \(error)") // No error, initialization succeeds } } Build and run the app on a device or simulator running iOS 18.0 or later. Observe that the initializer fails with domainNotRegistered for any identifier other than "defaultDomain". Expected Behavior: The ContactProviderManager should initialize successfully with any valid ContactProviderDomain identifier, provided the domain is properly configured or registered, allowing developers to use custom identifiers for organizing contacts (e.g., for different categories or sources). Actual Behavior: The ContactProviderManager initializer throws ContactProviderError.domainNotRegistered for any ContactProviderDomain identifier other than "defaultDomain". Only the "defaultDomain" identifier succeeds, limiting the ability to use custom domains. Impact: Developers cannot use custom identifiers to categorize or manage contacts in separate domains, restricting the ContactProvider framework’s flexibility. This forces reliance on the "defaultDomain" identifier, which may not suit use cases requiring distinct contact groups (e.g., personal vs. business contacts). Suggested Fix: Provide an API to register custom ContactProviderDomain identifiers, such as a ContactProviderManager.register(domain:) method. Update the ContactProviderDomain and ContactProviderManager documentation to clarify how to use custom identifiers or explicitly state if only "defaultDomain" is supported. If custom identifiers are not intended to be supported, document this limitation clearly to avoid developer confusion. Feedback : FB20104001 (ContactProviderManager Fails with Custom domainIdentifier, Works Only with "defaultDomain")

Device Activity Report Not showing any information
All After about 20 hours straight of working on this and having scrapped it twice I am realizing I should have asked everyone here for help. I am just trying to get device activity report extension to work inside an existing app. I have been heavily using family controls, managedsettings and deviceactivity and decided it would be nice to output some of the app usage so the User (parent) can see their children's app usage. I installed the target via xcode, confirmed group names match, and think I have it embedded correctly but when I run the app and call the view within the extension to show minutes used by any apps it just shows no time has been used. In addition, when I put print statements into the extension they do not show up in console. I have confirmed the main app target->Build phases->Link binary with Libraries has: ManagedSettings.framework FamilyControls.Framework DeviceActivity.framework I have confirmed in xcode that the main app target->Build phases -> Embed Foundation Extensions has: ShieldConfiguration.appex ShieldActionExtension.appex DeviceActivityMonitor.appex I have confirmed in xcode that the main app target->Build phases-> Embed ExtensionKit Extensions has: UsageReportExtension.appex I have used the apps I am trying to show data for extensively in the last 36 hours. FinanceKit: Apple Savings transactions missing source account information
When fetching Apple Savings transactions via FinanceKit, the data is missing key context about where the deposit originated from. Here’s an example transaction I retrieved: Transaction( id: 77371A0C-7122-42C7-BEBC-85BDF654AD2B, accountID: 68D9FE9D-6DA6-4A27-BB9D-19209CD29A56, transactionAmount: 1.46 USD, creditDebitIndicator: .credit, transactionDescription: "Deposit", originalTransactionDescription: "", merchantCategoryCode: nil, merchantName: nil, transactionType: .deposit, status: .booked, transactionDate: 2025-08-20 13:44:26 +0000, postedDate: 2025-08-20 13:44:26 +0000 ) As shown: transactionDescription is just "Deposit" merchantName is nil No indication of the source account In contrast, the Wallet app clearly shows context for Apple Savings account deposits, such as: "Apple Card" (daily cash) "Bank of America" (external transfer) "Interest Paid" (we do see "Interest" come through correctly) Without this metadata, third-party apps cannot replicate Wallet’s clarity about where a deposit came from. Every deposit simply appears as "Deposit", which is ambiguous. Request: Please expose additional metadata for Apple Savings account transactions, for example: sourceAccountName (e.g. “Apple Card” or “Bank of America”) transactionOriginType (cashback, external bank transfer, interest) institutionIdentifier or similar for external banks This would allow developers to show clear, Wallet-quality transaction details and avoid confusing users. Impact: The lack of source info makes Savings deposits nearly indistinguishable from one another, even though Wallet provides this context. For apps leveraging FinanceKit, this results in a poorer experience compared to Apple’s own Wallet. Thanks!

Supported URL Schemes
Some Apple URL schemes are documented for third-party use. It’s fine to use those URL schemes for their intended purpose. Other Apple URL schemes are not officially documented. Their use is unsupported. If you rely on such implementation details, things might work, or they might not, and that state might change over time. IMPORTANT If you ship via the App Store, pay attention to clause 2.5.1 of the App Review Guidelines. The Apple URL scheme documentation is not always easy to find.

I’m aware of the following: Apple URL Scheme Reference QA1924 Opening Keyboard Settings from a Keyboard Extension [This Q&A was retired years ago.] Preparing your app to be the default messaging app The doc comments for es_new_client in <EndpointSecurity/ESClient.h> Developer > Bug Reporting describes the applefeedback scheme Additionally, as questions about this most commonly crop up in the context of opening Settings (System Settings on macOS), I wanted to highlight the following: UIApplication.openSettingsURLString property (in Objective-C this is UIApplicationOpenSettingsURLString) UIApplication.openNotificationSettingsURLString property (in Objective-C this is UIApplicationOpenNotificationSettingsURLString) UIApplication.openDefaultApplicationsSettingsURLString property (in Objective-C this is UIApplicationOpenDefaultApplicationsSettingsURLString) AccessibilitySettings.openSettings(for:) method FIFinderSyncController.showExtensionManagementInterface() class method SMAppService.openSystemSettingsLoginItems() class method VSOpenTVProviderSettingsURLString global CXCallDirectoryManager.openSettings(completionHandler:) method SFSafariSettings.openExportBrowsingDataSettings() method SFSafariSettings.openExtensionsSettings(forIdentifiers:) method If your app needs to perform some action that’s not covered by the above, file an enhancement request for a supported way to do that.
